This House We Built Release Video for ‘Better Man’, Fifth single from ‘Get Out Of The Rain’

Scarborough rockers This House We Built return with “Better Man”, the fifth single to be taken from their second album Get Out Of The Rain. The track follows a wave of glowing reviews that has seen them tipped as one of the UK’s most exciting hard rock acts.

Speaking about the song’s origins, frontman Scott Wardell explains:

“This was a song born from me feeling pretty low at one point, sometimes we look out of our windows and only see the grey but there is a light if you can see through the fog and pull your big pants up, you can always find a way of getting through anything. We all have that superpower in us, it just sometimes takes some finding”.

Musically, Better Man marks a slight shift in approach for the band, something Scott also reflects on:

“The song is a little different to what I would normally write and in the studio Dave Boothroyd gave the song a little more ‘light and shade’ which I think worked really well, It gave the song more balls when the chorus kicks in which will make this one a great sing along track when we perform it live”.

The single’s video adds another layer of meaning, filmed over two days last April in the band’s hometown of Scarborough, including an early-morning sunrise shoot showcasing some of the town’s most recognisable landmarks.

“The Video was filmed last April in our hometown Scarborough, we did a couple of days shooting, one of which was filmed about 5am in the morning at sunrise, it captures some of the famous landmarks in and around Scarbados. The concept behind the video was to show someone who’s basically not in a great place who’s trying to navigate through hard times, feeling frustrated and angry with life. I think January is a bad time for people’s mental wellbeing and so it felt appropriate to bring this single out when we did, hopefully the lyrics give people some comfort and make them realise there is always a light at the end of the tunnel for everyone.”

A further personal touch appears at the end of the video version of the song:

“The original lyrics i wrote had a third verse which i wanted to put in there but the song really didn’t need it, I’ve ended up writing it at the end of the song on the video single, with an acoustic guitar fading out you can sing these lyrics as you see fit! (Scott Wardell)

Released at the end of November, Get Out Of The Rain has received glowing reviews across the UK rock press, with critics united in their praise Rush On Rock hailed the album as “a thunderous statement of intent from the best hard rock band you’ll hear all year,” while Metal Talk described it as “a late contender for album of the year, Get Out Of The Rain is spectacular and something that will remain loved for many years to come.” Fireworks Magazine said, “Great music, done with love and enjoyment, that’s infectious and if you catch them this year, you’ll be moving into their house.”

Scott Wardell adds: “We wanted to give our loyal fans something extra special with this album, we’ve had some incredible support over the last couple of years and feel like the bond we have with our fans is a special one. We ran a crowdfunding campaign for this album, and it has been unbelievable how many people have got behind us, the album is for the fans, the people who have believed in us and everyone who’s become the spirit of ‘This House We’ve Built’
