“a righteous mix of punk noise and feminine fury” – Kerrang! (The Sound of 2026)

YAKKIE’s new single takes aim at fuckboys, exposing the loneliness and internal chaos among men who seek validation from as many women as possible. ‘He Sleeps Alone’, out today, is propelled by an undulating grunge bassline, which grooves into an earworm chorus that sees vocalist Janey Starling jubilantly proclaim the song’s title.

Starling explains ‘He Sleeps Alone’ is “an anti-fuckboy anthem written in the age of the situationship. This song is about the emotional loneliness that straight men create for themselves through desperate performances of masculinity that cut themselves off from real love. If there’s a “male loneliness epidemic”, it’s entirely men’s own doing through their self-absorption and superficiality.”

“I know far too many hot and intelligent women who have been thrown into emotional turmoil by insecure men who are strangers to themselves and end up dragging others into their vortex of self-loathing.”

‘He Sleeps Alone’ is another taster of YAKKIE’s forthcoming debut album ‘Kill The Cop Inside Your Head’, which is set for release 13th February 2026. The previously-released ‘Rabbit’s Got The Gun’ – “an uncompromising rager about resistance recorded in one live take” – and the record’s rousing, rallying title track have seen the metal-loving, DIY punk supergroup gain attention from the likes of Kerrang!, who just included them in their “Sound of 2026” list, Drowned In Sound and Loud Women. ‘Kill The Cop Inside Your Head’ was even spun by Rage Against The Machine legend Tom Morello on the behemoth that is SiriusXM in the US.

‘Kill The Cop Inside Your Head’ was recorded at the prestigious Middle Farm Studios in Devon with producer Peter Miles (Architects, Tesseract, Orla Gartland, Petrol Girls). The entire album was recorded on reel-to-reel tape in a mere four days – nothing digital was used in the recording process. Every track was recorded live in one take, with the result being a raw and real rollercoaster of powerful takedowns, motivational chants, soft emotive moments and feminist fury.

YAKKIE will punch you in the face and kiss you on the cheek after. They began as a political outlet for Starling, KERRANG! award winner and founding frontwoman of Dream Nails, who took a break from making music to focus on full-time anti-prisons activism and is now back on the mic with a vengeance. She enlisted Robin Gatt, the iconoclast behind Personal Best and bassist of Petrol Girls, to propel her lyrics in Smashing Pumpkins-style shredding and downtuned Helmet-style riffage. Laura Ankles of Colour Me Wednesday and Maeve Westall of Jasmine.4.T and Itoldyouiwouldeatyou drive the hulking rhythm section, filling out every frequency left to produce a scorching wall of sound.
