London singer-songwriter David Sinclair releases a new single, ‘Then… Good Night’, on Friday 19 December. Warm, melodic and rooted in family life, the song – performed by the David Sinclair Four – draws inspiration from a poem Sinclair used to read to his children, transforming its gentle cadence into a lyrically rich, guitar-led track with a bright, uplifting feel.“‘Then… Good Night’ grew out of a poem by the children’s author Ruth Ainsworth,” Sinclair says. “It’s a song about the simple rituals that end a family day – moments that seem to shine more brightly as time goes on. There’s a lilt to the melody, a feeling of joyfulness, like a child sliding down into a night of happy dreams.” Recorded at The Bookhouse Studio in Bermondsey and produced by Jack Sinclair, the track features David Sinclair (vocals, guitar), Geoff Peel (guitar), Derek White (bass) and Jack Sinclair (drums). Backing vocals are provided by Georgie Webb, whose harmonies add warmth and lift to the chorus in particular. ‘Then… Good Night’ follows recent singles ‘I’m Waiting’ and ‘[I Got] One Pair of Hands’ – part of a sustained run of new material showcasing the London band’s blend of British Americana, roots-rock storytelling and melodic clarity. Sinclair’s reputation as both an acclaimed music journalist and a performer with the David Sinclair Four (DS4) gives his work a rare dual perspective: reflective, literate songwriting delivered with the immediacy of a road-tested live band. The release caps a busy year of shows that has seen DS4 take their energetic set from Scotland to Cornwall and all points in between, confirming their status as one of the most engaging live acts on the UK circuit. ‘Then… Good Night’ is released digitally on Critical Discs and will be available on all major platforms on Friday 19 December. |
