Praise for The Splintered Oar:

“‘The Splintered Oar’ is everything from somber violin work to triumphant, driving black metal topped with some truly guttural vocals, and really I wish I’d heard this sooner because it would’ve been on my year-end list. This is fucking majestic, man.” – Metal Injection

“[Charlie] Anderson’s direction and artistic dreams are far loftier and volcanic than many of us had realized, and ‘The Splintered Oar’ gives a deep look into just what he’s capable of accomplishing.” – Meat Mead Metal

“In the end, Charlie Anderson is Weft, and Weft is Charlie Anderson, with ‘The Splintered Oar’ beautifully representing the fusion of body, soul and extreme music by such an amazing new entity of the current American scene.”

– The Headbanging Moose

They say that it takes a band/musician their entire life to create their first album, and on the weathered, atmospheric, and truly adventurous The Splintered Oar, it sounds like every note has indeed a lifetime of exploration, joy, loss, and growth behind it.

WEFT is the sole vision of Charlie Anderson, a name you may have heard before, as he has toured the world with and has become a very integral part of Panopticon with his amazing violin work and gift for musical composition. On The Splintered Oar, Charlie has meticulously constructed an album that may occasionally hint at his influences, but finds him empowering his musical vision with many different styles. At the core lies atmosphere, ignited by a churning death and black metal accelerant. Add alternate musical paths such as country/Americana, prog, and other distortionless endeavors, and you have a very adventurous and exciting album.

The Splintered Oar further deepens the experience with a vocal range that churns in the deepest of brutality, basks in the howling rage of a fire-lit night sky, only to enchant with choirs/clean singing, which strengthens every colorful moment cascading across this album like waves slowly eroding away the shoreline. And the violin… Charlie has used this instrument in a very creative way… one that certainly has never been experienced in the metal sphere before. Haunting melody lines and effects augmented treatments offer moments of bold experimentation that never suffocates, only transports the listener deeper into the experience. The Splintered Oar is indeed a vessel of exploration set adrift in a vibrant storm of metal intensities.

For this recording, Charlie formed a community of talented friends and contributors who helped see that his vision come to fruition:
