Today, South London outfit Ain’t have shared an expansive new single titled “Long Short Round”. The single comes on the heels of their debut sold out London headline show, a packed-out UK tour with THUS LOVE, a DORK showcase alongside Lime Garden, two hotly tipped showcases at The Alt Escape and Dot To Dot, and their recent singles “Pirouette” and “Jude” which arrived earlier this year to widespread acclaim.

“Long Short Round” lands in the tail end of an incendiary year for the band. Having already played showcases for the likes of So Young, Rough Trade, The Alt Escape, and The Windmill, their first two singles “Oar” and “Teething” arrived last summer and marked out the quintet as that rarest of things – a band with a feverish word-of-mouth reputation, despite having not released a single official track, delivering on all the promise that they had built up. The tracks saw widespread support with the band landing digital cover with Dork and props from the likes of Stereogum, Consequence, Under The Radar, NME, CLASH, DIY, The Line Of Best Fit, and So Young, as well as radio play from BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, Apple Music 1 and more.

Recorded with Ali Chant (Dry Cleaning, Yard Act, Sorry), “Long Short Round” is the band’s most dynamic and richly textured track to date. Spanning just over six minutes the song takes all those much-loved elements from their previous four singles – their affinity for stranger side of 90s guitar music, post-punk, and shoegaze – and laces them with fuzz rich guitar lines and hook led harmonised vocals. The distorted and melodic first section gives way to a more ruminative movement which nods as much to the sound of the New York music scene that courses through the band’s earlier singles as it does the emotive Midwest indie-rock sound of early-mid 00s.

Speaking on the single, the band says “Long Short Round is about doing little rituals that feel as if they’re doing something good, but they’re utterly pointless when it comes to getting what you’re hoping for. Pressing a bruise for instance – it’s a wonderful sensation, but it doesn’t make you heal any faster.”

“Long Short Round” is another of the band’s early live favourites. Fans will have a chance to see the band play everything they’ve released to date alongside new material at Sŵn Festival in Cardiff this week and at Mutations Festival in Brighton in November. Full dates below and more TBA.
