Dullahan Release Stadium Ready Single ‘Made of Stone’ (feat. members of New Pagans)
Dullahan have more pedigree than a Crufts champion, so it’s unsurprising that the third single from the band, Made of Stone, already feels and sounds like a band arriving fully formed. The band are made up of Allan McGreevy (Guitar, Vox) from New Pagans, Gareth McGreevy (Drums,Vox) of NI’s favorite two-piece – Disco Beard, along with John McHugh (Bass) ex-Dutch Schultz and David Hanna (Guitar, Vox) ex-Small Hawk Orchestral. The result is a band that are firing on all cylinders from the off. If you’re not already familiar with Dullahan, ‘Made of Stone’ is the perfect entry point, as it offers up all the band’s calling cards. Speaker shredding guitars spew neck snapping riffs, driven by pummeling drums and foundation shaking, rumbling bass all given voice to by Allan McGreevy’s razor sharp melodies, sing along harmonies and wailing leads. No neck is safe. The band’s new single is released ahead of their appearance at the Old Crows Promotions curated stage at Output along side Broncos.

Dullahan spent a year locked away in their practice space at Allan’s Badlands Studio refining their sound and workshopping songs before they let anyone in on their secret. First single ‘Damn That Bonebreaker’ was released in October 24 with sophomore release, ‘Stand’ following in April 25 alongside a blistering headline at Ulster Sports Club. The band take a collaborative approach to song writing, with some songs arrive fully formed whereas others are born of an intuition between the players, each bringing their respective hammer to the anvil.
It’s this special alchemy we hear on new single ‘Made of Stone’. This is quintessential Dullahan, blending the previous releases together; marrying riffs with melody. As soon as Gareth’s drums come crashing in he doesn’t let up, you can hear the drums and cymbals strain under his attack. The song writing is sharp and focused, each new part laden with another hook. Allan and Dave’s guitars complement each other throughout, adding heft when needed or another melodic counterpart to the vocal melody. Guitars are crunchy from start to finish but never overpowering, leaving plenty of space for John’s bass to anchor the track and lock in with Gareth’s unrelenting kick, it’s a devastating rhythm section.
Allan says of the track, “The song title is a straight lift from one of my favorite bands, Motorhead. I bought the album “march or Die” when I had turned 13. The opening track is called “stand” and the final lyric is “forget your blood and bones, stand like you’re made of stone” For someone who has struggled with nerves throughout my life; that lyric became my mantra. Made of Stone.” This was also the inspiration for the music video, which sees a tattooed 8 year old version of Allan uncover an instrument of rock while fending off boredom. All setting him on the path that he still walks today.
Allan is responsible for all the engineering, production and mixing working out of the band’s defacto HQ, his Badlands Studio. Mastering was handled by Jon Moorehead of Moosetronix Mastering.
