Ahead of a clutch of live dates this summer, Brighton alt rock quartet Slung have released footage live from the studio of them performing ‘Come Apart’, a brooding track which features on the band’s recently released debut album ‘In Ways’. Vocalist Katie Oldham says “Come Apart is one of my favourites off the album, a rolling desert-cruiser of a track that details a long-simmering revenge against someone who wronged you. This is reflected in the way the track builds and culminates in a sonic explosion at the end. We recorded this live session before we’d ever even played a gig as Slung, it really is a glimpse into the start of the journey that has taken us to where we are now, 50+ gigs and an album release later!”
With shades of metal, grunge and an all-round plethora of alternative influences, ‘In Ways’ was breathed into life by Slung through the supreme ability of its members and their vision. The band’s line-up is completed by bassist extraordinaire Vlad Matveikov, the accomplished Ali Johnson on guitar and powerhouse rhythm-master Ravi Martin on drums. Katie’s storytelling and the compelling way she brings together personal, lived experience with more abstract, conceptual ideas and characters, comes to the fore via a collaborative combustion of its members’ experiences, circumstances and accomplished musicianship. Slung’s sonic universe is a veritable musical supernova, with the band’s members referencing influences as far-reaching as Deftones and Baroness, Wednesday and MJ Lenderman, Queens of the Stone Age and even Chappell Roan and Fleetwood Mac.
Slung’s debut album garnered attention from the likes of Kerrang!, DORK and Metal Hammer with singles getting spins across stations such as BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio and Amazing Radio. You can see the band on tour this summer at various festivals and headline dates. This new session footage proves that their live presence will captivate you.
