After five consecutive UK Top 10 albums, 12 million sales and over a billion streams, Amy Macdonald has become one of the UK’s most beloved and authentic singer-songwriters. Her down-to-earth spirit and emotive songwriting remains as compelling as ever, as evidenced by her new album ‘Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’ which is released on July 11thvia Infectious. Amy today previews the album by sharing her latest single ‘Can You Hear Me?’. Listen HERE.

Bristling with energy like a gunslinger bursting through saloon doors, ‘Can You Hear Me?’ has a subtly different feel to Amy’srecent singles. Its tight rhythmic pulse and sparkling guitar textures provide a disco-tinged twist on Amy’s core sound. Yet its message is in keeping with Amy’s predilection for lyrical themes which offer a beacon of hope in troubled circumstances. This time, Amy seeks to inspire the next generation to keep their faith for a brighter future. The song was written by Amy and Matt Jones, and produced by Nicolas Rebscher (AuroraElla HendersonLouis Tomlinson).

Amy says, “I was playing TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow, and I found myself looking out at the audience, thinking, oh my gosh, these are all kids! They weren’t even born when I started making music, they’re not going to know me at all. This is going to be awful. And we went out and we played this full set, and it was one of the most amazing gigs that I’d done in my life.

Seeing this younger generation, the ones that had just been fucked over totally by Covid, the government… But they were so happy and loving life. And I thought, you know what? We’re actually in good hands. Like, what a great flipping group, what amazing positivity. It was one of those weird moments where you get on stage and it really feels like, ‘Oh, this is why I do this.’ So ‘Can You Hear Me?’ was kind of a call to arms for the younger generations.”

‘Can You Hear Me?’ joins ‘Forward’ and the title track in building anticipation for ‘Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’. The album is available to pre-order / pre-save HERE.

Having so far performed to a combined audience of 5 million people, Amy will play the Isle of Wight Festival this week before touring Europe in July and August. She also recently announced an autumn UK and Ireland headline tour which saw the Glasgow show sell-out six months in advance, leading to a second night being added to fulfill phenomenal public demand for tickets. She will now play to over 28,000 people in Glasgow alone. Remaining tickets for the shows listed below are available HERE.
