“ …brimming with technical ability that nevertheless always feels a half-second away from fraying, fragmenting and falling apart” – Decibel (Hall of Fame inductee) |

They made blasphemy sound fresh on their debut, but for their follow-up, CRYPTOPSY claimed the crown as the most vile band in all of death metal. None So Vile established death metal as a truly vulgar art form. With each slurp from his chalice, Lord Worm smears the line between what’s sacred and profane until it’s dead and dripping. Lead guitarist Jon Levasseur shouldered more of the songwriting duties while seamlessly shredding between gut-slitting chugs, blistering technical riffage and orgiastic solos, though Cryptopsy still followed the textbook drumming of Flo Mounier. Trampled underfoot by a relentless piling-on of blast beats and oddly-timed bursts of double bass, “Graves of the Fathers” quickly cemented itself as a sacred rite amongst circle pits. “In writing None So Vile, the idea was to create something heavier, faster and more technical than Blasphemy Made Flesh“, Flo says. “We were growing as musicians and so was our love for extreme music! At no point in time had we ever thought it would turn out to be one of the essential albums in death metal history. We are very happy that our fans did!” Season of Mist is reissuing None So Vile on May 9, 2025. ➤ Listen: https://youtu.be/j_vF1Wptvbw ➤ Pre-order: https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/CryptopsyReissues Available formats

Still, while only the band’s second album, None So Vile is worshiped by gatekeepers and fresh heshers to the underground. “You won’t find a more deserving album to be the first-ever Canadian entry into the Decibel Hall of Fame”, the magazine wrote about None So Vile, which they named the tenth best death metal album of all time. On None So Vile, Cryptopsy claimed their crown as the most vile band in all of death metal. More praise for Cryptopsy “…it might be the closest thing that the non-classical, non-jazz world has to high-culture music” – VICE “…no surprise, Flo Mounier is completely on his game, as he displays his fierce, inhuman drumming” – Exclaim! “…a must-have for any extreme metal fan’s collection” – Metal Hammer “…would come to define technical brutal death metal” – Angry Metal Guy “…had the packed room going absolutely bonkers with circle pits, regular pits, and crowd surfing” – Brooklyn Vegan “…you’re gonna wanna windmill, but then you’ll be humming some of those riffs later” – Metal Injection “Cryptopsy brings the old sickness back” – Metal Sucks |

Though now revered as the most vile band in death metal, before Ungentle Exhumation, Cryptopsy were still just a whisper among the Canadian underground. After settling on a new name and several lineup changes, Cryptopsy recorded their first demo as a five-piece in 1993. While the band would go on to re-record most of these songs for their blasphemous full-length debut, Ungentle Exhumation already bore their unmistakable mark on death metal. “Gravaged: A Cryptopsy” is split open by the hair-raising screech and brutal barks of Lord Worm, while Flo Mounier flogs closer “Mutant Christ” with unhinged technical precision. “Ungentle Exhumation was the first release in the band’s transition from Necrosis to Cryptopsy”, says drummer Flo Mounier. “It’s more death-metal type music. The songs have more blasts, more chunky grooves, and were recorded on good old analog, in one room, with all the musicians together!”Season of Mist is reissuing Ungentle Exhumation on April 11, 2025. ➤ Pre-order: https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/CryptopsyReissues |

Even the most legendary heroes have their downfall. Back at the end of the 2000s, the underground had left Cryptopsy for dead thanks to an album that’s best left unspoken. But when the recent JUNO Award winners returned from critic-imposed exile in 2011, they reclaimed their crown as the most vile band in death metal with their self-titled album. “The self-titled album brought Cryptopsy back to its true intention, which is pushing brutal death metal to the utmost extremes”, says Flo Mounier. “It marks the beginning of our resurgence”. The songs needed time to cook, but once guitarist John Levesseur and Flo started jamming, they rediscovered the right balance between jazzy experimentation and brutal technical proficiency on Cryptopsy. “Ominous” still reigns as the only song in their 36 year history with a downtuned guitar, while future set list staple “Two-Pound Torch” introduced their patented, squirming fishhook riff. The reissued version of Cryptopsy’s self-titled album is now available on Season of Mist. ➤ Order: https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/CryptopsySelfTitled |

Though it pulled them back from the brink, Cryptopsy’s self-titled album was only the beginning. The Canadians continued their brutal resurgence on the double during the mid-2010s with two neck-snapping EPs. The Book of Suffering was always meant as a companion piece. Cryptopsy framed Tome I around the concept of those phobophiles among us who inflict suffering (including a twisted-but-true tale of a Greyhound bus trip gone horribly awry). Meanwhile, Tome II shifts perspective to those who’ve escaped their tormentors. “Sire of Sin“ – a ripping escape from a notorious religious cult – quickly turned into a staple in the band’s ever-mutating setlist. “The band is once again at the forefront of creative brutality“, Angry Metal Guy rejoiced. Now, for the first time, fans can own both EPs on one combined LP when Season of Mist reissues The Book of Suffering this Friday, December 13. ➤ Order: https://shop.season-of-mist.com/list/cryptopsy-the-book-of-suffering |

Genre: Brutal Death MetalWhen Cryptopsy emerged from Montreal, Quebec in 1993, their groundbreaking blend of technical prowess and brutal intensity left an indelible mark on extreme metal. Right away, Cryptopsy showcased their unparalleled musicianship with their debut album. Blasphemy Made Flesh (1994) set the stage for a career that’s been defined by innovation and boundary-pushing. Their next album solidified the band as pioneers of death metal. None So Vile (1996) earned them critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase across the world. “Brutal and beautifully chaotic…a must-have for any extreme metal fan’s collection”, wrote Metal Hammer, who named None So Vile one of the best death metal albums ever. Cryptopsy has continued to evolve throughout their storied career. Their 30-year discography defies any one categorization, ranging from jazz fusion on Whisper Supremacy (1998) and the avant-garde rhythms of Once Was Not (2005) to the melodic experiments of The Unspoken King (2008). In 2012, Cryptopsy released their self-titled album, which signaled a return to their brutal roots. Three years later, the band embarked on The Book of Suffering, an ambitious two-part EP that Decibel regarded as “an absolute fucking burner”. Almost 30 years into their career, Cryptopsy won the JUNO Award for Best Metal/Hard Music Album for their latest album As Gomorrah Burns (2023). They followed that up by earning another prestigious honor: joining Death to All on a tour of North America. Along with their celebrated discography, a relentless work ethic and reputation as blistering live performers has cemented Cryptopsy as one of metal’s most influential and respected bands. But while their legacy is safely established, the band remain committed to expanding the definitions of extreme music. Having now signed with Season of Mist, they’re preparing to release new music, along with definitive reissues from their classic catalogue. Booking Agents:
