The special fundraising concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, aims to support women and girls facing violence and injustice across the world. Marking Annie Lennox’s first headline show in the UK since 2019, the concert will come two days ahead of International Women’s Day, and during Women’s History Month.
Annie Lennox says: “I’m absolutely delighted to announce the line-up of artists, speakers and special guests taking part in The Circle’s inaugural SISTERS event!
It’s been amazing to have so many of my favourite artists answering the call to support The Circle’s mission of empowering women and girls globally. The fact that tickets sold out in minutes, has been life affirming, especially as I recently celebrated my 70th year on the planet!
I’m thrilled we can still offer a chance to attend, via the ‘For One Night Only’ prize draw, which includes access to the show and my soundcheck. The money raised will help support some of the world’s most marginalised women and girls. As women’s rights are being rolled back, the need has never been greater.”
The concert gives a platform to global feminists, as alongside Annie Lennox headlining, audiences will also get to see BRIT Award winner and Academy Award nominated artist Celeste, British singer-songwriter Nadine Shah, Irish folk singer Ríoghnach Connolly and special guest speaker Misan Harriman.
Speaking of being a part of such a meaningful event Nadine Shah says: “I fully support The Circle’s mission statement to persevere to ensure a future where there is equality & safety for all women and girls. If Annie asks you to do something…you do it. It’s an honour to be a part of what will be a properly special evening.”
Ríoghnach Connolly also says: “We are bearing witness to women and girls’ rights being attacked all over the world. The Circle is on the front line of supporting grassroots organisations to amplify their voices and defend their place in the world. It’s a privilege to be a part of supporting them through this event. Let’s Go!”
The Circle is a unique organisation which is committed to standing in solidarity and action to fight for a fairer, safer and equal world for women and girls. Named after the Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin’s 1985 feminist anthem ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves’, SISTERS: Annie Lennox and Friends at The Royal Albert Hall will be raising funds to support marginalised women and girls around the world.
The Circle funds and supports grassroots women-led organisations worldwide from Afghanistan to South Sudan, that are working on the frontlines of gender-based violence, global crises including conflicts, and economic insecurity. Bringing together global feminist changemakers, The Circle advocates and campaigns to tackle unjust systems and amplify women’s voices to those in power.
Over the past 15 years, The Circle has supported over 1.4 million people directly on women’s rights and empowered more than 700,000 women and girls facing violence, discrimination and fear.
Raakhi Shah, CEO of The Circle says: “We are delighted that the FONO charity draw is offering such a unique and special prize in aid of The Circle. All donations will help fund The Circle’s vital work to support marginalised women and girls confronting violence and inequality globally. With over 300 million women and girls living in extreme poverty, and 1 in 3 women face violence in their lifetime, things are getting worse for many women around the world. It’s never been a more critical time to get involved.”
After walking the catwalk at the Hall for Fashion Aid in November 1985, Annie Lennox made her musical bow at the Hall the following year, singing at the Colombian Volcano Disaster Appeal Concert, alongside The Pretenders. Her other appearances at the venue have included spectacular guest spots at the famous Concert for George memorial in 2002 – which celebrated the life of George Harrison – the Peace One Day concerts in 2007 and 2008, and the Children in Need Rocks the Royal Albert Hall show in 2009.
