Themes of self loathing, loneliness and feeling contempt beat at the core of a conversation with myself , the new EP from Scottish alt-rockers newshapes, due out on April 18th in 2025.

Showcasing a more direct injection of rock and metal than its predecessor, a conversation with myself sees newshapes subconsciously move away from post hardcore inspired sounds and dive head first into a straight up rock record. It’s an emphatic collection of honest encounters that delves into the band’s varied influences to create something that feels fresh and true to form.

Accompanying the announcement of their upcoming new EP, newshapes have also shared a new single today, with the soaring new track sick of breathing following on from the recent single, the rain.

Speaking about the new single newshapes vocalist Ian Mann comments, “I remember confiding in a close friend that my life was so numb and empty that I felt like I had nothing new to write about. I hadn’t allowed myself to feel through it and channel it into music, and this song was the result of pushing myself to do just that. It wasn’t until I started writing it that I began admitting to myself that maybe I wasn’t feeling this way through boredom, but that I was actually lost in my own life and had been using the idea of some external mundanity to retain some sort of fake confidence in where I found myself.”

To celebrate the release of their forthcoming EP, newshapes will be take to the road for their debut UK headline tour this April. The tour kickstarts in Glasgow on the 19th April before stopping off in Manchester and Birmingham before concluding in London on 25th April. Full details below:

In newshapes’ first 2 years as a band, they have captivated the alternative music scene. Their debut EP ‘i hope this finds you’ (released in October 2023), led by enormous lead single ‘foreverend’; a track with a chorus that wouldn’t be misplaced if set amongst the anthems of 2010s emo and alternative royalty has steam rolled to over 800,000 + streams to-date, with the tracks collecting seven Spotify editorial placements (including All New Rock and All New Metal), and five plays on BBC Radio One’s Rock Show and Introducing Rock Show. The band’s early success led them to invigorating performances delivered on some of Glasgow’s biggest stages alongside the likes of Wargasm, Atreyu, The Blackout, The Nightmares and more.
