With the full force of the sun now beating down and the day in full swing it’s more power metal with Beast in Black. Despite the heat, the arena round the stage is packed with people wanting to catch these guys. With their powerful melodic rhythms, strong back beats and catchy choruses this band has it all. Throw in some leather, denim and studs and wailing solos and what’s not to like about these guys. On stage, they put on a performance looking like they’re having as much fun as the crowd as they lean forward and play off of one another’s energy. Using every inch of the stage, they run around whipping up more energy from the crowd who seem to be living for this performance as they chant their name. It’s another stand out set from the day despite the lack of pits, the crowd has been worked into a frenzy of rocking out.
Changing things up, it’s time for Septicflesh to hit the stage. The symphonic death metal pioneers are ready to hit the ground running and the crowd are right there with them. Frontman Spiros Antoniou quickly gets the crowd chanting and fist pumping between his deep growls. From the powerful drumming to the symphonic overtones, the Greek band have a perfected formula that excites their fans. With hair flying as the band headbang away, it’s clear that they throw their all into putting on a show for their fans. For a full 45 minutes both the band and the crowd throw themselves into the music creating one of those you had to be their moments which also breaks the more melodic afternoon we’ve had.
It’s finally time for a band that we’ve been waiting all weekend to see as The Night Flight Orchestra takes to the stage. Every year we’re treated to a band around this time of the day that’s completely out of the usual mix of heavy metal. After blowing everyone’s minds back in 2022 on the Sophie stage, this time the Swedish band are taking over the arena. With their flamboyant stage performance and feel good party songs, this is a band who won’t fail to put a smile on your face. Björn Strid in his holographic cape is on top form today as he gets the crowd in a party spirit backed by the Airline Annas. The rest of the band who might be more familiar playing more exteme metal are also in high spirits as they look dapper in their suits. In a field more accustomed to headbanging and mosh pits, there’s now a massive crowd swinging and dancing away and that includes the band! With all the hits including “Burn for You”, “Gemini” and “Satellite”, the crowd is singing along and everyone is living their best life! Closing with “West Roof Avenue”, a few members of the crowd dressed as pilots are invited on stage while the rest of the crowd creates the conga lines around the arena!
