Slow Joy’s Mi Amigo Slow Joy EP is out Today via Mick Music – Listen HERE!Currently on Tour Doing Headline Shows and Opening for Free Throw |
“Packed between the Pinegrove-shuffle lurch of opener ‘4U’ to the hint of grungegaze powering closer ‘Lay Me Out, I’m Losing My Mind,’ the EP is a celebration of the past three decades of alternative rock music condensed into something more broadly appealing than any of Nevermind’s non-single tracks.” – FLOOD Magazine “…there’s a leisurely exuberance to Slow Joy’s ‘90s-style shoegaze pop. But there’s also a strong sense of catharsis.” – The Dallas Morning News “On his new EP, Mi Amigo Slow Joy, Flores lays out angsty vocals over a foundation of gritty punk guitar to create melanges of grungy shoegaze.” – Chicago Reader “’90s alt-rock groups like Modest Mouse and Smashing Pumpkins inspired his sound — and it’s unmistakable. The four tracks on his new EP mix grunge and emo in a way that feels decidedly nostalgic.” – Dallas Observer “crunchy, alt-rock-inflected soundscapes [with] searching, vulnerable lyrics.” — KXT 91.7 |

ABOUT SLOW JOY Knowing he was going into the studio with someone he deeply respected pushed Flores to refine his songwriting and turn to enduring inspiration (specifically the pillars of alternative rock) as touchstones. But the EP’s visuals and title, Mi Amigo Slow Joy, are also meaningful to Flores, as they represent him making sure his art reflects his Hispanic heritage and culture. Growing up in small-town New Mexico as a fan of rock music—a genre that had next to no Hispanic artists at the forefront—he didn’t necessarily see himself represented in crowds or onstage. However, going on tour is helping Flores see the profound impact Slow Joy is having on others. At a sold-out homecoming show in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a line of people came up to him and thanked him for championing Hispanic culture. “To me, the more representation, the better” Flores says. “And I’m thankful that the people who felt maybe like I did can now have more archetypes that they can say, ‘Well, if he can do it, then someone else can do it.’” |
Slow Joy is currently on the road with his band for a North American tour that includes headline shows, festival sets at Ohio Is For Lovers Festival in Cincinnati, OH and Furnace Fest in Birmingham, AL, and opening for beloved Nashville based American emo band Free Throw in the US and Canada.
