London, UK – Alt pop-star phem is back with a new track – penned all about her favorite furry friend. “I love my dog” arrived on May 4 and true to its title, is an ode to phem’s sweet pup back home. The heartwarming ode to man’s best friend has been a favorite each night on the Avril Lavigne tour, and is now finally available for the masses to hear HERE. In fact, fans have started bringing signs and pictures out to the shows, shouting their own love for their dogs from the rooftops night by night. There has been no shortage of sweet footage of phem’s pup on social media in support of the song, which also received an equally as adorable lyric video. Watch here.
phem explains of the track:
“ i had a note in my phone for months ‘WRITE A SONG AB UR DOG’… i’m not even sure when i wrote it …. but with every session i’d pass it over until finally i got in a stale room. we tried a few ideas … deliberated over things for a few hours but nothing was doing it for me. it was getting later and later and i was getting more agitated that it might end up being a wasted day. frustrated as hell, i scrolled through my phone for a last attempt at a bit of inspiration…. there it was “write a song ab ur dog”…. i said fuxk it, give me some simple chords – and within 5 mins i had the hook.
i don’t know why nobody else has done this before… but it seemed like the perfect song to take around the world to places that haven’t gotten to know me yet. we all have a commonality we take for granted … we all love our fkn dogs…. and honestly it’s working…. dozens and dozens of ppl after the show flooding to me at the merch table telling me about their pets of all kinds, showing me their photos, tattoos…. how their pups have saved their lives… or how they just passed away, how the song brought tears to their eyes …. i never could’ve imagined. in a creative climate where so many topics are taboo, heavy, or intimidating…. i decided to take my artistry elsewhere for a moment… something so ridiculously basic…. that im surprised i even went for it”
ABOUT phem:
Los Angeles-based phem is an enigma – artist, songwriter, vocalist and producer. Before her recent success, she spent a year living between her car and studio space in the Crenshaw District of LA. During this time of isolation, she dove inward discovering the essence of her creativity and sexuality, both fluid and intertwined. These surroundings and life changes left their own stain, adding to the liminal and ethereal float of her songs. For phem, this self discovery has paid off. Over the past couple of years she has both been featured on and co-wrote songs with a slew of artists including Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker, Lil Tracy, Iann Dior, Pouty Face, JXDN, GRANDMA, Palaye Royale, The Used, Huddy, Gabriel Black, Steve Aoki, Tyler Posey, Royal and the Serpent, and more.
