“’Black Turbine’ is a commentary about toxicity in codependent relationships. It’s an ode to being independent and holding onto individuality.” Lake Malice vocalist Alice Guala is clear about the intent of the band’s new single, the brutally anthemic ‘Black Turbine’. The track marries an undeniably heavy AF edge with a soaring melodic chorus which is bound to inspire live sing-alongs. Its accompanying music video is horror-tinged, as is becoming Lake Malice’s specialty, with Guala assuming various persona and guitarist Blake Cornwall (the other half of Lake Malice) raining riffs. Earlier this year, the Brighton-based band released their ‘Magic Square’ single which came with a horror movie of a music video and received love on BBC Radio 1 Future Alternative, Kerrang! and Rock Sound, to name just a few. They’ve shared stages with some of the UK’s best underground heavy talent such as Hacktivist and InVisions, and they’ve just been announced on the line-up for a very special Download Festival next year, as well as recently playing a couple of shows with Zeal & Ardor. They’re committed to taking their own unique take on heavy to as many venues and cities as possible. Lake Malice’s explosively eclectic sound comes from their fascination with the idea of mixing nu-metal, hip hop, electronic & dream-pop elements, inspired by artists such as System Of A Down, Grimes, and Enter Shikari.
