EB & The Deadlights Talk Influences & Inspiration With Rock ‘N’ Load

EB AND THE DEADLIGHTS are back with a thunderous new single and video, Unmarked Grave, out Friday 30th September (link goes live 30/09 – https://youtu.be/gOqybzqwZ-M ). With a glut of influences panning from many areas, we exclusively asked the rising shock rockers for their top favourite six tracks:

Alice Cooper – I Know Where You Live

https://youtu.be/DrXXy41RAOM

I could realistically select any song from Alice Cooper, and from this album specifically, but the ‘Along came a spider’ album to me was the perfect blend of old school Coop and the heavier stuff he dipped into later on so I just decided to go for the first track. As far as how it’s influenced the band it is just the type of dramatic theatrical rock n roll that made me want to start a band like this in the first place!

White Zombie – Thunder Kiss 65′

Again could’ve picked any White Zombie or Rob Zombie track but figured sane we use to cover this one may as well stick it on here! I feel like in our chosen genre it’s just songs like this that really shaped the way the sound is and Mr Zombie, regardless of what band, is on the shock rock Mount Rushmore so to speak haha!

Creeper- Poisoned Heart

https://youtu.be/cbgQV4ME174

Considering this list is for single tracks and not albums I’ve sat for about 10 minutes trying to contemplate what song from this album to pick haha! Creeper are one of those acts that are always reinventing themselves, like Bowie etc, and are a massive influence on us and going forward I think that will become quite clear. For me personally it was songs like this that really showed me you don’t have to have one specific sound for an album and you can really just throw genre out the window and do whatever you are feeling like if the songs are up to power.

Architects – When We Were Young

I’m not the biggest Architects fan yet but Mac our guitarist loves them, and I know this song came out right smack when we’re in the midst of writing various songs and he talked about it quite a lot so I would assume riff wise it played a big part in the heavier tracks we have coming up.

The Damned – New Rose

https://youtu.be/TUxFQ5QBiYk

The Damned in my opinion are the ultimate punk band. Again it’s hard picking just one song for a lot of the bands I grew up listening to so I’ve just decided to go for the first track that got me into them. They’ve just influenced so many bands, as far as we go I’m sure as time goes on you’ll see a lot more of this type of sound sneaking its way out. But yeah I don’t think anyone would be arguing that Damned Damned Damned & Machine Gun Etiquette are some of the best punk albums to ever grace a set of ears.

Biffy Clyro – That Golden Rule

https://youtu.be/NDmeMjsV35U

As a band collectively we all love Biffy Clyro, again hard to just pick one song but we were jamming this at our most recent practice so it seemed like a shout. I think between us we’ve probably seen the Biff live about 30 times. They’re just a great rock band who aren’t afraid to bend the rules within their genre and branch out to different things. Generally that’s the most important thing we all take away from most of these bands, don’t be afraid to try new things and put out a song people might not be expecting from you.”
