Today, 100%WET announced their first music release of 2025 with a new single “Over Me”. The track continues to showcase the band’s distinctive fusion of drum and bass, hyperpop, and shoegaze, further developing the unique genre they have coined as “hypergaze”.

“Over Me” is the second-ever song produced by 100%WET, showcasing their experimental approach to blending shoegaze’s signature “wall of sound” with the frenetic energy of drum and bass. The result is a track of immense scale, where massive high-end tones and subterranean subs surround a theme of heartbreak – a sonic embodiment of the question posed in the lyrics: “Are you over me?”

Much like the duo’s last single “Ether”, which featured vocalist Eir, “Over Me” showcases the vocal talents of fellow Copenhagen artist Amalie Hannibal Petri, also known as Polly. Her dreamy and effervescent vocal performance beautifully complements the song’s masterful transitions between raving breakbeats and sonically dense, shoegaze-inspired guitars.

While its lyrics remain as cryptic as something from the Cocteau Twins, “Over Me” is unmistakably a breakup song. The track’s sound mirrors the emotions of falling apart – chaotic, overwhelming, and deeply cathartic. As both its title and sonic landscape suggest, it’s a journey through the whirlwind of heartbreak, pulling listeners in all directions.

“Over Me,” alongside their debut track “Lost Myself,” defines the hypergaze sound – a term coined by their friend Tettix Hexer in response to the band’s genre-defying music. This track sees Casper Munns and Jakob Birch pushing the boundaries of their love for shoegaze and breakbeats.  Imagine shoegaze’s iconic “wall of sound” reimagined as a towering structure with ricocheting beats and sub-bass on the vertical axis, and guitars stretching endlessly across the horizon.

“When we met, we both needed to approach music-making from a fresh perspective. We’d been exploring electronic production styles, and this song became our mutual attempt to create drum’n’gaze – a term Casper had coined to describe the missing fusion of shoegaze and drum and bass,” explain Casper Munns and Jakob Birch.

“With this song, we also wanted to experiment with tempo changes, embracing an epic structure while staying true to our rock roots and passion for uptempo dance music. The lyrics explore the feelings of longing and self-pity after a breakup – emotions accompanied by an undercurrent of rage and a need for catharsis.”

Director Ada Grüter captures these themes beautifully in the music video for “Over Me,” where the main character embarks on a surreal journey. “The video’s protagonist is a desperately searching figure, navigating an overwhelming universe of abstractions before ultimately finding peace and warmth. It’s a journey filled with innocence, excitement, and humour – qualities we deeply connect with,” the band shares.

To celebrate the release, 100%WET also present their debut music video. Created in collaboration with Lucas Kober and director Ada Grüter, the video is a vivid exploration of creativity and fulfilment.

“The video follows a character chasing a shining star, a metaphor for a creative idea or the songwriting process. It runs unstoppably through different landscapes, representing phases of its journey. At the end, the figure reaches the star, symbolizing the realization of an idea and the fulfilment of a creative process,” explains Ada Grüter.

“Starting in their flat, the character travels through an associative world full of memories, thoughts, and spontaneous ideas. Using a mix of found footage, 3D, and varied illustrations, we depict a lush, surreal landscape. Musical symbols like notes and guitars appear throughout, rendered in a distorted, internet-inspired aesthetic.”

Grüter’s use of lighting enhances the video’s dreamy atmosphere, illuminating the set from the darkness and creating an ethereal mood. “The protagonist, influenced by the DnB beat, is designed with a PlayStation 1 aesthetic, which adds a playful layer to the story.”

With “Over Me” and its accompanying video, 100%WET continue to push the boundaries of genre, offering a transcendent and deeply emotional experience for listeners and viewers alike.
