March 19th, 2021 (New York, NY) – Newspoke released their new single “Clean”, along with an accompanying video for the track. The new song exclusively premiered onAmerican Songwriter. “Clean” is the lead single from their upcoming album sophomore album Knocking on the Door of Daylight, due out on 4/30.
American Songwriter raved about the new song, “With an ear-candy acoustic guitar line, a driving backbeat and a tapestry of synths, wind instruments and countermelodies, ‘Clean’ is demonstrative of the duo’s knack for writing songs that are intimate, deep, inspiring and catchy all at the same time.”
The anonymous indie duo Newspoke have returned with their first single “Clean” following the release of their debut album Faces in 2018. The single features dynamic acoustics and earnest vocals while battling topics of addiction and mental health in its lyrics. The track was specifically inspired by an experience M had with a roommate while living in LA.
M says, “The lyrics are pretty straightforward, they’re a clear picture of what I was seeing firsthand on a daily basis. Here was this normal kid forcing himself to go through a horrendous withdraw every single week just to give these demons something to eat.”
The music video is an eccentric visualization of the track with directorial and animation work by Dominique Bloink. The chilling feeling of being trapped in one’s mind is reflected in visuals of mischievous demons and melting eyeballs all on a backdrop of bright sunny colors.
M adds, “I explained the inspiration to Dom Bloink, our visual artistic partner, and she created this perfect vision as if she were living in my head.”
New York-based Newspoke is an anonymous duo that focuses on honest, revealing music and eclectic visuals. Going by ‘M’ and ‘R’, Newspoke emphasizes their honesty through anonymity.
