In celebration of the release of their latest album VI, You Me At Six decided to do a selection of release shows. On order to make it into one of these exclusive shows, fans had to purchase the album on CD or Vinyl from their local record store as part of a ticket bundle. This bundle gave them a copy of the album and access to both the signing session and acoustic after show.
We checked out the show in Leeds which following the signing on Jumbo Records was held in The Key Club below. Despite doors opening at half 6 the show had to be delayed due to the masses of fans trying to enter the small building. There was a buzz of excitement in the air as many of the fans had no idea what to expect from their favourite band tonight.
The show itself consisted of the band playing 5 hits off of their new album in the intimate setting. With the tracks given that great acoustic feel these fans were lucky to be witness to this event. Hearing some of the biggest hits such as “Back Again” and “3AM” felt like a very special occasion. The guys even tried to do a bit of Eminem’s classic “8 Mile” but unfortunately that didn’t quite pan out. This just gave them a human feel which you don’t always find when looking at your heroes from afar.
While the set may have been short, the band made sure to give the fans a good performance. They gave everything they would for a full size show without compromise. It was only a shame not to have been able to hear more from them. But not to fear as the band are back in a few weeks time in order to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their first albumTake Off Your Colours. If this was anything of a taste of what’s to come from this band then that will be one hell of a show.
Album launches like this don’t come around often and it was a real treat for these fans to not only meet their idols but to see an exclusive show as well. It will be a memory for many people that will stay with them as a highlight of seeing their favourite bands live.
