WOMEN OF DOOM Project Celebrating Female Artists in the Heavy Underground Drops April 10

Collaborative album featuring THE OTOLITH (ex-SUBROSA), FRAYLE, HEAVY TEMPLE, members of YEAR OF THE COBRA and ROYAL THUNDER arrives amid surreal times for musicians

WOMEN OF DOOM, the collaborative project inspired by and celebrating the musical impact of women on all things heavy, arrives April 10th from Desert Records and Blues Funeral Recordings.

The project, which launched with a successful Kickstarter last August, was conceived to involve female artists and industry professionals at every stage of the process.  In addition to an array of known and up-and-coming musicians, the album features cover art by Lara Subterranean, mastering by Jett Galindo at The Bakery, a short essay by Elizabeth Galdamez of Hear She Roars, and vinyl production by the largely female team at Furnace Manufacturing.

Speaking about the project, Frayle vocalist Gwyn Strang says:

“I think Women of Doom has given an outlet to female artists in the genre to have their own singular voices, and to come together and make something larger than each of us separately.”

Heavy Temple singer/bassist Nighthawk elaborates:

“More and more, there are new bands with a strong female or non-binary presence. Media coverage is evolving from reductive and demeaning “hot girl with a guitar” stuff to “this person is a truly talented musician” regardless of gender. I appreciate everyone who makes an effort to share their voice, and I think we’re on the right track to make sure everyone is heard and respected, regardless of gender.”

The full list of participating artists on Women of Doom is:

  • The Otolith (ex-SubRosa)
  • Mlny Parsons (of Royal Thunder)
  • Heavy Temple
  • Amy Tung Barrysmith (of Year of the Cobra)
  • Besvärjelsen
  • Doomstress Alexis
  • The Keening (Rebecca Vernon of SubRosa)
