The WOLF ALICE number 1 album BLUE WEEKEND has been shortlisted as one of the 12 Albums of the Year for the 2021 Hyundai Mercury Prize. The band have now been shortlisted for the eminent prize for each of their three albums, winning with their previous record Visions of a Life.
To coincide with the news, the band have announced their new single HOW CAN I MAKE IT OK? a stand out track from BLUE WEEKEND. A favourite of the band and already a hit with fans, the song is the stratospheric peak of the album and arrives alongside a video directed by Jordan Hemingway (Gucci, Raf Simons, Comme Des Garcons).
Speaking about the track, Ellie Rowsell says, “I really like this one. It’s a real mixture of happy and sad and fun, a bit more groovy. It’s the oldest one. I remember writing it on tour in Spain. I was really into backing vocals and harmonies, and I wanted a song where I could indulge myself in singing.”
The band are set to headline the opening day of Latitude Festival, their first major headline slot and another milestone for the band in 2021. They will then tour the UK and Ireland in January 2022.

BLUE WEEKEND is the follow up to Visions of a Life, a record that cemented the band’s position as one of the UK’s most exciting bands. With the new album WOLF ALICE have now become one of the most vital bands in the world. The record features THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, SMILE, NO HARD FEELINGS and HOW CAN I MAKE IT OK? BLUE WEKEND is out now via Dirty Hit and available on all DSPs, vinyl, CD and cassette: https://wolfalice.co.uk/blueweekend/
The album is yet another landmark achievement for the London-based band who won the Mercury Prize with their sophomore album Visions of a Life in 2017 after also being nominated for their 2015 debut My Love Is Cool. Both records reached #2 on the album chart and earned them multiple BRIT Award and GRAMMY nominations.
Wolf Alice are ELLIE ROWSELL (vocals and guitar) JOFF ODDIE (guitar and vocals) THEO ELLIS (bass) and JOEL AMEY (drums and vocals). It has been a decade since the band began as a duo of Ellie and Joff, later expanding to a four-piece with Joel and Theo joining the group. The band decamped to Somerset to begin work on the album, and it was there where they reconfigured who they were together, far away from festival stages, tour buses and awards shows. They cemented their friendship and set to work on fledgling demos in a converted church. These demos evolved into BLUE WEEKEND, produced by Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Bjork, Brian Eno, Florence and The Machine) who aided the band in refining their sound to an even sharper point. Rowsell’s personal storytelling is at the core of BLUE WEEKEND, an album that sees WOLF ALICE embrace a newfound boldness and vulnerability in equal measure.
