This is one of the albums that I have been looking forward to getting my hands on and there is significant anticipation across the Death Metal spectrum to see what this combination of heavyweights can create. Firstly we have Rune Eriksen of Aura Noir and ex Mayhem fame, combined with the unmistakable David Vincent from Morbid Angel and Flo Mounier, renowned drummer of Crytopsy, forming an extreme three piece that certainly gets the excitement levels raising.

This trinity of splendour bring us the debut album under the banner of Vltimas, bringing their own expertise to the mix to create an incredible concoction of Death Metal, mixed with some Brutal and some Black to create something very dark, punishing and fantastic.

Opening with album title track ‘Something Wicked Marches In’, after a short into, the album bursts into life with a chunky riffs and the intense drumming Cryptopsy fans will be expecting, before the vocal of the master begins to narrate the despicable things that the band have created. The hooks pierce you as swiftly as the drums beat you, whilst Mr Vincent continues his unmistakable vocal over the top.

Immediately afterward we reach Brutal Death pace as ‘Praevalidus’ blasts onto the scene, to really ramp things up and provide an intense and impactive slab of top-drawer Death Metal that will smack you squarely and bluntly in between the eyes.

The huge tracks just continue to roll along the track list as this monster of an album destroys everything in its path, providing disgusting riffs, destructive beats and that voice that has haunted many for years, combine all their experience to blow the expectations out of the water and create something that is truly special.

The album spans some 39 minutes spread across 9 songs, each of with have their own excellence and identity. The pace fluctuates between tracks, however the quality never wains as this new combination really show what a true Super Group are capable of creating. In their own respective groups the have created some of the defining music in Death Metal, Black Metal and Brutal Death Metal, together they have created a beautiful abomination that everyone needs to hear.

This is a certainty for challenging for album of the 2019.
