Twentythreenineteen is the brainchild of multi-talented Sean McCall who while other projects seemed to take a breather found the time to experiment with the tracks on this debut album XVIII XIX . Taking on different elements while backed by a set of skilled musicians, this album is a journey of beautiful tracks. Taking a journey through different sounds and styles, there is so much to take from this album that it has to heard to be understood.
Each track is built and composed in a way that is quite stunning to hear. With McCall’svocals set high above the music, it allows you to really hear the lyrics on each track and enjoy his voice. While some tracks are simply just melodic sounds that have a very relaxed feel, others have a more energetic beat. On top of this, there is the experimental vocals of what is almost a call and response in “Convince Me” that is quite clearly a highlight on the album. With the opening of a child’s voice discussing the enjoyment of music, quoting that it’s “the best thing ever”, before easing into a soft melody, it is quite a beautiful track. For the more energetic tracks, “Tangled” encaptures this perfectly. “Ascending” on the other hand has this fantastic upbeat sound blended with a slightly darker undertone while being another fantastically composed track.
Its difficult to pin down a specific genre with this band as they veer in different directions, taking influences from Pop Punk, to Pop to a more easy listening sound. It’s a great easy listening album that will find itself on repeat while you let it wash over you and enjoy. For fans of Seaway and Jack’s Mannequin , XXIIIXIX is a perfect album.
