In quick succession and after the success of Renaissance Men released earlier this year, the Wildheart lads are back in the game with this short and snappy 6 track mini album titled Diagnosis.

‘Diagnosis’ is also the first track on this album and the most eloquent as you embark on a journey with Ginger through the trials and tribulations of suffering from anxiety and depression – a somewhat ‘taboo’ subject that the Nation Health Service regularly sweep under the carpet and diagnose by tarring people with the same brush.

With a fundamental Wildhearts rhythm, the track is loaded with powerful lyrics that portray just how fucked up the system is when it comes to dealing with mental health issues. But it’s also a message from the heart and no doubt a strong start to the album.

Tracks such as ‘God Damn’ and ‘A song about drinking’ are everything you would expect to hear from The Wildhearts.  Heaps of grungy guitar riffs, stomping drumbeats and an abundance of backing vocals from CJ Wildheart patently create the foundations of the album.  ‘That’s my Girl’ is even akin to the infamous ‘Caffeine Bomb’, whilst ‘The First Time’describes the passion that is still burning within the band after being given a second chance to hit the big time.

Now the final track on the album is a bit of a red herring and titled ‘Locac’.  No idea what it means and to be honest, it doesn’t matter.  Crazy from the start with distorted growls from Ginger, it’s followed with a combination of manic flats and sharps on guitar and alternate tempos on the drums.  There’s no obvious structure to the track and the result is a mind-bending euphoric head fuck. Chaotic, but damn it works.  A track that’s totally different from the norm that leaves the listener in trepidation. A cracking end to the album.

They say that the best things come in small packages – well this is one of them. Nice to have you back guys.
