The Virginmarys // Live Review // Nightrain Bradford

It’s a wet and windy start to February however in a warm and inviting venue in Bradford, there’s the perfect remedy. The Virginmary’s are here in Nightrain tonight as part of the Independent Music Week and the venue and bar are packed in with a crowd ready for some northern rock n roll to kick-start the month.

As the only band on the bill tonight, due to the support bands having to pull out, the night is started with a solo set from Ally Dickaty. As he takes centre stage, you can tell how comfortable he is performing. While not quite an acoustic set, there is certainly an intimate feeling with this opening performance which the crowd who have come down early tonight clearly enjoyed.

After a short break and outfit change, Danny Dolan joins Dickaty for their main show. With a setlist that covers everything from their 2012 self-titled EP all the way through to their last album Northern Sun Sessions, there’s something for every fan here. A live show is not just about the band playing through their songs though, it’s about how they do that and the energy and passion they put into the performance and the duo tonight covers all the bases and more. With Dickaty taking centre stage with his guitar he is captivating to watch as he performs and you can see the passion for his music as he plays. Although Dolan is behind his drum kit you certainly don’t miss him either as he is a clear presence throughout. The rock duo has built a solid fan base over the last 10 years and often play live so fans know exactly what to expect from their shows and they didn’t disappoint tonight.

Having never seen these guys play before I’ve certainly left a fan tonight. There’s something about them that you can’t help but love and enjoy as they perform and it’s safe to say they are a band you don’t want to miss. Luckily with more dates coming up next month as two support Ricky Warwick and The Fighting Hearts, you won’t need to and I would suggest that you check them out!

The Virginmarys

Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you all so much for your patience on what has obviously been the most difficult year ever!!

Despite all the challenges over the past 14 months, we have decided its the right time for a fresh start and new phase of the band.

We’re going to move forward with a vengeance, and completely smash it exclusively as a 2-piece, with plans for brand new music to be delivered later this year.

We are hugely excited about this decision, and though perhaps a little scary first off, we’re really going to thrive from the challenge of playing strictly as a duo, with bigger riffs, higher power and fresher sounds than ever before, guaranteed!

The live show will be bigger than ever, and of course we’ll still be honouring the older material at the gigs as well!

At this point we’d also like to say a huge thank you to Ross, who has been nothing short of amazing to play beside for the past few years.

You guys have always been so amazing and supportive with everything we’ve done and we hope you come along with us on this journey with intrigue and excitement!!

Check out the tour here!!!

Much love always

Ally & Danny
