After a storming set at Camden Rocks yesterday, The Purple Lights announce their eagerly awaited new track, ‘Lake’, out July 12. The track is out on 3-6-9 and was produced with Ed Ripley (Goat Girl, Milk Disco, Skinny Lister) and recorded at London’s DADA studios.
Purple Lights are quickly building a stunning reputation with their crazy live shows and performances, with a backdrop of roots reggae, their free spirited shows get any party started, the sounds are infused with a huge dose of tribal drumming, combined with 60s psyche to dancehall – bringing audiences together in a unifying, upbeat experience.
In Lake the duo take a break from their normal Sabath-eque riffing, as they lean towards their more organic percussive roots. The emphasis on Akeba’s Afrobeat drumming and Rob Fincham’s emotive vocals conjure up a pop sensibility where Vampire Weekend. meets Reginald Omas Mamode IVs.
Lake is a break-up song, a coming to terms, a reprieve, a time to repair and reminisce, the duo take an emotive and searching journey right back to that Lake. The video is Directed & Edited by Andy Wilsher (The Killers, The White Stripes) and filmed at Hackney Downs.
Having performed at an array of festivals so far, including: Glastonbury, Beacons, Secret Garden Party, Latitude, Alt. Escape and recently kicking off Extinction Rebellion from the back of a lorry at Marble Arch. You can catch them at Camden Rocks June 2nd, at Music and Beans – 2:30pm!
The band boast a diverse range of influences from Bonobo, Bomba Estereo, Solko and The Skints to legends like Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Johnny Cash, Marley andHendrix which they illustrate with the breadth of their ultra-prolific sound.
