The Dollyrots are back with their latest album Daydream Explosion . It’s been two years since their last and they’ve been busy since then not only writing and recording this, butKelly Ogden also worked with Jared (Bowling For Soup) on their own duet album, which was released this year also. All the hard work the duo have put in over the last 2 years through has clearly paid off however with this newest addition to their catalogue.
Ogden has this wonderfully unique vocal ability and sound, which makes her instantly recognisable. She goes from pure Pop Punk vocals in this energetic and fun sound to sultry and bluesy across the album. “Flippy in My Red Dress” is the perfect example as she starts off with the more sultry sound that’s backed with the clicking fingers which takes you back in time before heading to a more aggressive sound in the chorus. It makes for a track that’s really quite fun which is exactly what we expect from the band. For a more generic Pop Punk track though “Everything” and “Animal” are the perfect example of this with the fast and energetic riffs and catchy choruses. Another highlight is “I Know How To Party” with the opening of Andrew W.K’s “Party Hard” edited within the track, the lyrics are what make this track though. Taking those moments that can class us as clumsy, or bird brained, there will be one or two moments they take that will be very much relatable.. or maybe that’s just me!
The Dollyrots have once again pulled out all the stops into an album which is full of this high energy that is a little more punk than pop but great nonetheless. From start to finish there is a great sense of fun which the band have always excelled at with great musicianship. It has fast become one of my top albums of the year so far!
