Following the release of their acclaimed new album Fantasies Of A Stay At Home Psychopath earlier this year, The Blinders have revealed ‘Life’s A Beach’, a special six-part web-series filmed at Liverpool’s beautiful Formby Beach. Watch part one of the first episode featuring John McCullagh of Children Of The State here.
Comprised of three episodes split into halves, the six-part series features a selection of unique socially distanced acoustic performances and enlightening conversations with a selection of special guests including The Goa Express and Manchester folk legend Jon Coley.
Lead vocalist/guitarist Thomas Haywood and his guests perform both individually and collaboratively, discussing music, the past and life in the new normal as the sun sets and the waves crash onto the beach behind them.
Haywood comments, “I wanted to play music at the beach with a friend and talk until the sun went down. In turn we ended up projecting a cute, sort of delicate image of the relationships that bands and artists often have with one another…”
The follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, Columbia, released in 2018, Fantasies of A Stay At Home Psychopath explores existential despair, mental health and society’s ills in a time of planetary crisis, and was released to widespread acclaim in July. The band also recently played three stripped back ‘lounge lizard’ shows at The Rose & Monkey Hotel in Manchester.
“This second album from the Manc band touches upon topics like mental health and has been described as “a riposte to the rise of populist ideology”. The band incorporate influences from the likes of IDLES and solo-era John Lennon… a particularly penetrating, bruising listen” NME“brooding post-punk… a fusion of IDLES and Nick Cave” Consequence Of Sound
“one of this country’s greatest rising bands… the sound of our times” Classic Rock
“drowsy post-punk, marrying the grimmest of Joy Division with Bad Seeds” Dork
“a force to be reckoned with” CLASH
“‘Fantasies Of A Stay At Home Psychopath’ is an essential document and soundtrack for these quite frankly dystopian times. Louder Than War
