Sundara Karma have today unveiled a new song ‘O Stranger’ (watch now). Accompanied by a video directed by Loona Kasemets, ‘O Stranger’ is one of the five new tracks that make up the ‘Kill Me’ EP – released today via Chess Club Records – including the eponymous ‘Kill Me’ and ‘Artifice’, which were released in September and October respectively.
New single ‘O Stranger’ is yet another deftly crafted yet unexpected revelation from Sundara Karma, a reinvention that feels simultaneously bold and yet completely natural. Bright synths and juddering bass underpin Oscar Pollock’s vocodered vocal, creating a space between the 80’s influence that courses through the band’s work and the future pop sensibilities they’ve embraced whilst working with co-producer Clarence Clarity (Rina Sawayama, Charlie XCX). It’s a sound that’s heavily informed by the claustrophobic south London environment in which it was created during lockdown- a dense, tight sound that spirals skyward as it unveils the bright and hypnotic chorus. ‘O Stranger’ is accompanied by a stunning video directed by Loona Kasemets, perfectly capturing the drama and kinetic energy of the track.
The new song is featured on the band’s new EP ‘Kill Me’, a dazzling, purposeful game-changer, alongside four new tracks including title track, ‘Kill Me’, unveiled last month on Annie Mac’s Radio One show. This is the band’s first new music since the release of their 2019 critically acclaimed album ‘Ulfilas Alphabet’.
The ‘Kill Me’ EP also sees Sundara Karma collaborating with visual director Hannah Diamond of PC Music. Having first crossed paths during a magazine shoot in 2018, Oscar reached out to the visual artist Hannah during lockdown to be the band’s Creative Director. Diamond helped him not only co-direct the striking video that accompanies “Kill Me”, but also help create an overarching coherent visual identity to supplement the band’s bold new sonic palette.
