It’s been a busy year for Aussie band Stand Atlantic! Having released their EP last year and touring not only the UK and Australia but Europe and America since the release, they have have somehow found the time to record their debut album too. Did I mention they’ve also changed record labels and have now joined Hopeless Records! Their strong work ethic is clearly shown and this album is the proof.
Skinny Dipping is 10 tracks of pure Pop Punk magic. While it holds everything that we have come to love about this band it also shows a lot of growth and a maturity that can take some bands years to achieve. Vocalist Bonnie Fraser has clearly used this album to release the difficulties she finds in opening up about her feelings and the feelings of vulnerability that comes with it. The title track is the perfect example of this and this is a clear theme throughout the track. With the album also comes some guest vocals on “Clay” which features Hannah Greenwood (Creeper). The band have been fans of Greenwood and thanks to meeting at the ultimate Pop Punk party Slam Dunk were able to use her very similar vocal style on the track. The track itself carries that fast paced rhythm that these guys have worked to perfection. There is still very much a sense of fun which has been seen on their earlier EP Sidewinder showing while the lyrics may have matured they are still all about having a good time too.
The whole album has a feel-good vibe that makes you want to jump around the room. It definitely leaves the question of is there anything this band isn’t capable of achieving. They have so far gone from strength to strength and with a UK tour supporting State Champs, they are certainly making a name for themselves. If you didn’t love this band before you most certainly will now!
Skinny Dipping is out Oct 26th via Hopeless Records.
