Squid / Ireland Tour / January 2022

SQUID have announced that their Belfast and Dublin dates, originally part of their full UK and EU tour this autumn, have been rescheduled for January 2022 with an additional Dublin date and further shows in Galway and Cork. Full details as below. The dates follow the release of BRIGHT GREEN FIELD, their debut LP which reached #4 in the UK album chart.

The band’s debut album BRIGHT GREEN FIELD came out in May and is probably the weirdest album to reach #4 in the official UK Album Chart in a long time – testament to the avid fan base they have been building over recent years with their incendiary live shows and high-octane releases. For this recording, the band brought in additional horns and string players to develop arrangements which have become heavily influenced by legendary minimalist composer Steve Reich. The results confirm what we already knew about SQUID – that they are one of the most exciting bands in the UK and far beyond.

BRIGHT GREEN FIELD features field recordings of ringing church bells, tooting bees, microphones swinging from the ceiling orbiting a room of guitar amps, a distorted choir of 30 voices, as well as a horn and string ensemble featuring the likes of Emma-Jean Thackray and Lewis Evans from Black Country, New Road. However, for all the innovative recording techniques, evolutionary leaps, lyrical themes, ideas, and narratives that underpin the album, it’s also a joyous and emphatic record. One that marries the uncertainties of the world with a curious sense of exploration as it endlessly twists and turns down unpredictable avenues.
