Spangled release new video ‘GOOD LIFE BETTER’

THE NEW VIDEO FOR ‘GOOD LIFE BETTER’ CELEBRATES THE LIFE OF FRONTMAN

BEN JOHNSON’S LATE FATHER DURING THEIR ISLE OF WIGHT HEADLINE SET

Spangled recently commenced their record deal with rock ‘n’ roll tastemakers This Feeling by sharing the single ‘Good Life Better’, a tribute to frontman Ben Johnson’s father John who tragically passed away after the band’s set at the 2021 Isle of Wight Festival. Now Spangled share the official video for the song.

The video opens with Ben paying tribute to his father while introducing ‘Good Life Better’ at last month’s Isle of Wight Festival, where they headlined the This Feeling stage.  The performance is interspersed with personally filmed archive footage, split between their 2021 Isle of Wight set and other intimate behind-the-scenes moments. John’s dedication is evident: you see him at the centre of the shot grinning with pride, or hard at work modestly doing all of the things that allowed Spangled to pure their full focus on their performance.

Clips of Ben and John together are particularly poignant, but Ben’s performance is equally as touching. Despite there understandably being brief moments where he appears to be overwhelmed by emotion, he strives whole-heartedly to put everything he can into the song. And there can be no better tribute to his father than delivering a great performance on a big stage in the toughest of circumstances.

The band commented, “The Isle of Wight will always have a special place in our hearts. What we lost there we can never get back, but the good memories are irreplaceable. This music video pays tribute to our biggest fan, our lamb chop king, our roadie, John Johnson. Last year he watched his son, our frontman Ben Johnson, blitz through his debut festival performance with nothing but pure pride in his heart before he passed away suddenly.

You can see John throughout this video: backstage, front of the stage, side of stage, literally everywhere in his Spangled t-shirt and bucket hat, having the best time of his life. Everything we did at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival was for him. Our performance was for him, the music was for him, this video was for him, because John Johnson made our good lives better.”

Produced by Gareth Nuttall (The K’s, The Lottery Winners), ‘Good Life Better’ features on the band’s debut EP ‘Chasing Nebulas’, which prompted This Feeling to sign Spangled to their new label after describing it as “one of the best EPs we’ve heard in years.” Until now, all ofSpangled’s tracks had been released entirely independently. Completed by Jamie Halliday (guitar), Niall McGovern (bass) and Nathan Kenyon (drums),  the Manchester band’s cosmic indie rock is flavoured by a melting point of influences including BlurThe Stone RosesSly & The Family StonePulpDavid BowieThe Beatles and Arctic Monkeys.
