Already a star in her homeland of Norway with a catalogue of A-listed radio hits and Norwegian Grammy nominations for Best Pop Act and Best New ArtistSKAAR is set to go global as 2022 unfolds. Starting as she means to continue, the 23-year-old now makes a powerful return with her new single ‘Get Him Away From Me’ as she prepares to release more music throughout the course of the year. This year will also see her song ‘Higher Ground’ feature in a major international Lancômecampaign. Listen HERE. Watch the lyric video HERE.

‘Get Him Away From Me’ embodies the bravery and purity of truth that is becoming a hallmark of SKAAR’s new music. Based around a plaintive plea that’s heartbreaking in its honesty, the intensity of its lyrics are reinforced by its relentless rhythmic fury. Yet out of the trauma comes an empowering alt-pop anthem which can offer a helping hand to people who have suffered through similar experiences.

It’s a song that SKAAR could only have made within the safe and supportive creative environment of her dear friend and co-writer Mathias Wang (AuroraSigrid).

SKAAR says, “‘Get Him Away From Me’ is a song I wrote to encourage myself to trust my emotions and take myself seriously. It is about something I experienced a little while back. It was really difficult and it’s something I’m still trying to process. I just wrote exactly what I was thinking and feeling without putting anything through a filter. Doing that started a process in me which helped me a lot! I also hope to encourage people to trust themselves more with this song.”

‘GHAFM’ will be followed by an official video, which reinterprets SKAAR’s story in a more playful narrative. SKAAR stars as a caretaker working the nightshift at a power plant. A terrible crisis soon emerges, and SKAAR has no alternative but to try to fix the problem on her own.

SKAAR (real name Hilde Skaar) grew up surrounded by the stunning scenery of the island of Stord. Her career started before she even told anyone that she wanted to become a musician, when she signed management and recording deals almost immediately after uploading her first cover to YouTube.

Her early singles – including ‘Higher Ground’‘Turn of the Tide’ and ‘24’ – established her as Norway’s most exciting new talent. Her debut EP ‘The Other Side of Waiting’ further demonstrated the artistic depth to complement her broad pop appeal. Her achievements kept on coming with three Top 10 radio hits and further award nominations including Best New Artist at the P3Gull AwardsThis Year’s Rising Star at by: Larm Festival, and Artist of the Year at the NRJ Awards. Her music also soundtracked the films ‘Battle’ and Askeladden’ as well as the Netflix series ‘Home For Christmas’.

But just as she was breaking through, SKAAR started to question her own abilities. She also felt the pressure to fit in, both as an artist and within the Oslo music scene. The turning point came when she realised that trusting her instinct and remaining true to herself was of far greater importance than seeking approval from others. That independent streak resulted in her releasing ‘Waiting’ in 2021, a set of stripped-back, sensitive acoustic songs.

After a turbulent period in her life, where songwriting became more important than ever before, SKAAR is embracing a new style. Not only is she exploring issues that are too personal and painful to discuss, but her openness is allowing her to achieve her limitless potential as an artist.
