Georgia trio Shoegazers return with their first new music since 2019. The self-titled EP ‘Shoegazers’ offers a new sound over 3 tracks interlaced with euphonic guitar and vocals hung upon a solid framework of melodious bass.
The layered backing vocals in ‘Drive Your Car’ provide a cute shoulder hug to the uplifting-but-soft melody and clipped-lyrics verses. There’s a short instrumental with a delightfully blurry feel – like listening through candyfloss – and the song ends on a pretty and stretched out strum. Perfect Shoegaze material.
The guitar at the soul of ‘Pain Behind Your Smile’ is joined with slightly fiercer drumming and some purposefully distorted notes. The lyrics sound more serious in this one, though the music washing over and submerging you is comfortably fluffy. The instrumental at 2:06 and sorrowful guitar at the end of this song smacks of the sad friend-zoning that the honesty of the words hints at.
‘When You’re Ready’ has lyrics that are studded with more conviction in their delivery than the other two tunes. The stubborn and repeated line “Tell her I don’t care!” is anything but believable since this song is superbly soaked in feels. It’s a wonderful relaunch into the Emo territory; not so much sad as somewhat aching and dripping with heartache. It’s a simple but very tuneful track with a poignant message “Where were you when I needed you the most?”
Short but sweet, it’s definitely worth spending a quality 10 minutes absorbed in the auditory hugs of this ‘Shoegazers’ EP. OUT 3rd December 2021.
