The Chicago soul troubadour Shawn James will be making his grand return to Belfast this year on Wednesday 4th March 2020, as part of an extensive tour around the UK and Europe, courtesy of local promoters Shizznigh Promotions and Rackus Rattus Promo Co.
The Irish tour leg has been facilitated by MPI Artists, and includes:

3.2 Dublin – Whelans
3.4 Belfast –  Voodoo
3.5 Galway – Roisin Dubh
3.6 Cork – Fred Zeppelins
3.7 Warrenpoint – Skylite Room

He will be performing at local rock establishment Voodoo Belfast on Fountain Street with a host of local talent supporting including the John Andrews Band, Brick Smith and Humphrey.
While growing up in Chicago’s south side, Shawn James experienced the power of soul music. His blend of blues, folk & soul music contrasts dark and light, anger and joy, gritty and authentic. James annually tours more than 150 dates around the world and has released some 70 songs over the past five years, both on his own and as part of his “more raucous rock” band the Shapeshifters, a loose group of musicians formed in Fayetteville, AR, which served as his temporary home before a recent move to the west coast.
James conceived his emotive and stunning sonic offering “The Dark and the Light” (2019) for which his 2020 tour continues to support.
Transcending any and all genres, James’ songs speak as much to these tremulous times we face today. Steeped in mythology and America’s dark past – The Dark & the Light seeks to turn despair into hope – as he does on the two-part tribute to his steel-worker father on “Love Will Find a Way I” and “Love Will Find a Way II.” Shawn’s father died an alcoholic when he was five and the two songs feature a journey from the depths of despair to the heights of ecstatic communion.
After his father’s death, his Greek stepfather introduced him to the Pentecostal church, where his vocal talent was recognised immediately and put to use in the choir. A child prodigy, Shawn entered a number of vocal competitions, with a multi-octave range that makes him unique as an artist.

A perfect mid-week show for fans of the Neil Young, Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Billy Bragg, and modern artists such as Rag N Bone Man and Emeli Sande.

(His cover of the Bill Wither’s classic “Aint No Sunshine” has reached over 18 million views!)
