Gothenburg alt-pop artist and Grammy Award winner Sarah Klang, who has previously described herself as “the saddest girl in Sweden,” returns with inspiriting new break-up single Canyon celebrating freedom from the emotional shackles of a past relationship. Canyon beautifully blends sublime reverb-soaked melancholy with the gloriously uplifting, anthemic, and wonderfully rebellious refrain “You can’t keep a bad girl down”.

As Sarah explains “There were quite a lot of people writing me after my two latest album telling stories about being heartbroken and listening to my music, feeling sad. They wondered ”when do I let go of this feeling, when does it end”? In those particular cases I could never know, of course, but I wanted to put down in a lyric how I felt one morning when I woke up and suddenly time had passed, and I felt free. It’s about getting your own self back.”

Canyon is accompanied by a video shot in a Gothenburg hotel and directed by hyped Swedish photographer Fredrika Eriksson who also shot the single artwork and Klang’s press photos.

Klang’s music is a strand of enthralling vintage-pop, born out of a love of a good old-fashioned ballad and blended to a mesmerising effect with classic ‘60s and ‘70s pop, Americana-tinged guitars, country music’s lush hues, and an indefinable Scandi charm.

Sarah Klang’s musical career has been a meteoric success, her debut album ‘Love In The Milky Way’ (2018) topped the charts and won the ‘Best Album’ award at the Swedish Grammys, with Klang’s second album ‘Creamy Blue’ (2019) once again nominated at the Grammys in the ‘Best Album’ and ‘Best Alternative Pop’ categories, as well as receiving a nomination for ‘European Album of the Year’ at the IMPALA Award. Simultaneously Klang’s fun, exuberant live shows saw her sell out dates across Scandinavia and mainland Europe, and play huge arena shows as support to First Aid Kit.

New single Canyon was recorded in Gothenburg, co-written with Theo Stocks and Kevin Andersson, with Andersson also producing the record, and mastered by Magnus Lindberg. It is released a digital single on 23 October on Pangur Records.

Sarah Klang plans to release her third album and tour the UK in 2021.
