Robin Trower returns once again with yet another mind-boggling display of six string wizardry on his 2019 release Coming Closer To The Day. Trower is a revelation, at 73 years young he still puts out recordings on a regular basis that take the breath away. His latest offering is no different, a majestic display once again by the man many call “The White Hendrix” as he pulls and bends his way across his fretboard like a man possessed.

I am embarrassed to say that I heard my first Robin Trower album in 2016, holding a press copy in my hands I quickly judged a book by it’s cover and made my mind up that this album; Where You Are Going wasn’t going to be for me. How wrong could a man be, mind blown by his touch and technique I have been looking forward to each and every new recording coming from Robin ever since. Yes I may have been very late to the party, but at least I turned up.

Trower has turned up with 12 sumptuous tracks that make you wanna re-evaluate your life and any idea you every had of playing guitar. At 73 years young his mind is as sharp as ever with a six string in his hand, his song writing is as sharp as he was in his finest years and the songs flow like water off a ducks back. From start to finish Coming Closer To The Day oozes class. Signature Trower, signature runs, pulls and hammer-on’s, every trick he has in the book is there for all to see and like a fine wine he only gets better with age.

If for any reason you were like me, born in a bubble and missed out on the five odd decades of Trowers career, you too can make amends. Step up brothers and sisters all is forgiven.

Coming Closer To The Day is released March 22nd via Provogue / Mascot Label Group.
