The Canadian Extreme Black Metal outlet known as Revenge has returned with their follow up to the 2015 release Behold.Total.Rejection, an album that saw the first combination with Season of Mist, a combination that quite a few frowned upon until listening to the result.

The underground chaos that Revenge brings to the world is certainly not for the weak of heart, nor for those who like structure and a sing-a-long chorus, however, what you do get with them is an unrivalled extreme audible experience and now the sixth album looks to continue this decimation of traditional music.

As soon as you begin to experience Strike.Smother.Dehumanize the Black Metal atmosphere is instantaneous as the chaos begins, with distorted vocals, guitars that predominantly create a thick backdrop along with occasional solos that slice through the murky sound and the drums that match the blackness of the feeling.

Some would say that this sounds like a lot of confusion and may turn off at this point, however, I find this intriguing and engaging and can’t wait to hear more. This chaos continues and deepens as the Black element gets darker and denser and the extreme levels experienced somehow reach further and are unlike anything experienced before.

The 10 tracks on the offering span some 37 minutes and include aspects of Extreme Grind thrown into the mix that just adds to the fact that Revenge is creating what they want, not what they think is wanted. Strike.Smother.Dehumanize somehow appears to be the soundtrack to my mind, the chaos and confusion make you feel disorientated and the dark element is from the most sinister aspects that the mind can comprehend, and most won’t even acknowledge.

This latest album is as punishing as it is rewarding and the fact that there is so much going on only makes you want to listen to it repeatedly and try and understand the noise that Revenge has created. For me though, press play, and let your brain run away with the music, you won’t regret it.
