“I love doing duets, and this album has eight duets out of thirteen songs. It provides you with a new angle to write lyrics and opens up for exciting arrangements.” Per Gessle

Small Town Talkis a new chapter for one of the most successful songwriters of the past three decades. As the chief tunesmith for Roxette, Per Gesslepenned genre defining global chart toppers including The Look, Listen To Your Heart, It Must Have Been Love, Joyride and How Do You Do!  But when Roxette’s charismatic singer Marie Fredriksson announced her withdrawal from international touring due to health problems in the spring of 2016, Gesslewas sadly and unexpectedly presented with an open schedule. He decided to use the time productively to explore a new creative path: a Swedish solo project recorded in Nashville with a mix of Swedish and American musicians.

Gessle explains, We went there with open minds and my very rudimentary acoustic demos to see what a meeting between my songwriting and the Nashville musicians could end up in. The local musicians were more than welcome to influence the arrangements and productions to their taste. And the result was magical. Some of the moments in the studio just gave you goose bumps.”

He continues, “I felt I needed some outside input, and Sharon Vaughan—a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame—was just what I was looking for.The lyrics are really very important, not to say central, for this record. They’re about things that we all go through: the passing of life, our hopes, dreams and disappointments. It’s the magical fusion between words and music that makes sure that a song gets stuck in the head and the heart of the listener. It never ceases to amaze me. I think we managed to create a musical place with a sound of its own.”

Small Town Talk is Per Gessle’seighth solo studio album and features 13 tracks produced by himself and Christopher Lundquist, in collaboration with a ‘Who’s Who’ of Nashville musicians including Dan Dugmore (pedal steel guitar and dobro), Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Stuart Duncan (violin), Elizabeth Goodfellow (drums and percussion), Jessica S (vocals) and Savannah Church of The Church Sisters (vocals).  Released digitally and on 2 disc vinyl by BMG on September 7th.  Gessle will support Small Town Talk with a full European tour.
