It’s been around a year and a half since Papa Roach’s last album Crooked Teeth hit us and they’re back again with a new installment. With over 20 years in the business, the band has shown their ability to play Nu-Metal to Hard Rock and now they are here to try something else new. Who Do You Trust? is a new take for the band and shows them experimenting with a sound that is more Electronic and a little more Pop. Although there is still had that hard hitting passion behind them and the 4 singles the band have already released have been met by fans with love and eagerness for the rest of the album.
The 13 track album is quite a far cry from their last album which was more hard hitting, however this newer sound seems to fit the band just as well. That’s not to say however there isn’t still some of those harder and heavier riffs in there too. The title track, keeps a lot of what we have come to know from this band whereas the opening track “The Ending” shows more of the new electronic sound the band have been experimenting with. Another track which shows a slightly lighter sound that the band have discovered is “Feel Like Home”. While the chorus carries the hard hitting riffs there is a much lighter feel to the sound and the verses carry a more melodic feel to them with an almost Pop Punk feel to the whole track. While “Better Than Life” shows off the new experimentation with electro sounds which seem to allow the band to elevate to a new level in their sound and still fits who they are as a band perfectly.
While we may be more used to angst filled hard rock anthems from Papa Roach, this new album is still as impressive as any before it. The band continue to prove that even through the years they still have an awful lot to give and are comfortable enough to try something new and exciting. Who Do You Trust? Is another success for this band and makes you wonder is there anything they can’t do anymore?
