Romantic relationships often contain a number of intricate layers but sometimes, one single quote makes them all come together: “We accept the love we think we deserve”. Out of Vancouver, Canada comes the indie/math-rock, emotionally-driven project year over year, comprised of one candid solo musician, Dorian Pintaric. On October 27th, Pintaric released “charm” along with its somber music video from his new EP The Love We Think We Deserve. Including the captivating and incredibly expressive single “Hell”, along with it’s underground-styled video, The Love We Think We Deserve is Pintaric’s own exploration of self-awareness in a cohesive story.
For this EP, Pintaric took his time. He set out on a journey to create stripped-down songs and ended up learning more about himself than he could have ever imagined. Spending his teachable teenage years performing in bands before coming back to his passion as a solo artist, Pintaric has a strong DIY ethic which shows in year over year as he candidly discusses personal adversity and heartache in his latest visual for single “charm”. Pulling from similar artist styles such as Into it, Over It., Phoebe Bridgers, From Indian Lakes and Julien Baker, year over year is an unapologetic representation of personal growth.
Dorian commented, “Pretty much every song was ironed out during local shows and I feel like that was the most natural approach. I had no real pressure to release music or prove anything. I think in general TLWTWD is a work of critical self reflection that is like a screenshot of growing pains in my early 20’s.”
