“While unashamed to throw other influences into the mix–whether that be thrash metal, hip hop, or ska–
zebrahead’s collection of inclusive and super-speed anthems are ultimately all about just enjoying life and having fun.
‘Brain Invaders’ is the epitome of what has helped pop punk continue to flourish” – Punktastic.com
Orange County based genre-bending outfit zebrahead has been met with critical acclaim and sold out venues for the past 20-plus years on the other side of the pond. But with their new studio album Brain Invaders, the band is making some serious waves across the US, and it’s about time. The band self-released Brain Invaders on March 8 and took a completely DIY approach which seems to be working for them as the album is garnering some hard earned and well-deserved attention.
“Aptly named, the songs on Brain Invaders will get stuck in your head and invade your brain. Every song on the album has Zebrahead
taking chances, and it sees the band essentially going for it” – I’m Music Magazine
Since their inception, the band has sold over 2.6 million albums and racked up an impressive 30 Million youtube views as well as earned a Grammy nomination from a collaboration with Motorhead. And, despite their continual and colossal popularity and presence in countries such as Germany and Japan (where they remain one of the biggest US punk bands), zebrahead continued to find North America a challenge. Even though they had become favorites all around the world
“The legendary band has been kicking butts since 1995 and released twelve studio albums to date, with Brain Invaders clocking in at lucky number 13!” – Pure Grain Audio
Refusing to give up on the USA, in late 2018, the band made the decision to try self-releasing, self-marketing, and self-promoting a new album, Brain Invaders on their own MFZB Records. They took on the tasks of coordinating and overseeing marketing, publicity, and promotional teams, while also handling all physical product manufacturing and distribution.
To date, Brain Invaders has garnered over 4.4 million combined streams and over 650k views on youtube, and the numbers are growing daily. By taking the reins, zebrahead has successfully re-connected to a very large, enthusiastic and re-energized fanbase. “You never know how an album is going to be received after you release it.” says vocalist Ali Tabatabaee. “More than anything though, we couldn’t be happier by the awesome reaction and enthusiasm towards the album from our friends and fans. If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to keep releasing new music, and that’s never lost on us. So, we really want to thank everyone for their support. See you soon on tour! “
The band has just completed a tour of Australia and will head over to the UK, and Europe this summer where they will perform at numerous festivals including Download (UK), and Hurricane (Germany). Additionally, they will return to Japan to perform several dates on the Summer Sonic Festival. zebrahead hopes to play a US run in the fall of this year.
“Out of the 14 tracks that make up Brain Invaders, twelve are from the outset just ‘pedal to the metal” no-nonsense, bollocks-out rock. When I say “rock,” I mean it in the broadest sense of the term, as Zebrahead career through variations of the genre: punk rock/pop-punk/ska-punk/death metal / pure pop et al.- it’s all here – Vents Magazine
zebrahead is vocalist/rapper Ali Tabatabaee, vocalist/guitarist Matty Lewis, bassist Ben Osmundson, drummer Ed Udhus and guitarist Dan Palmer. Brain Invaders was produced by the band and Paul Miner (New Found Glory, Atreyu, Thrice, Death by Stereo) and mixed by Kyle Black (Pierce the Veil, Paramore, New Found Glory.)
