Northlane will host a two night only streaming event of Live At The Roundhouse, featuring their celebrated performance captured at Sydney’s iconic venue The Roundhouse on 11th October 2019. Taking place on 21st & 22nd August, Live At The Roundhouse will be available as a pay-per-view event via Netgigs, with the band chatting live throughout both screenings.
Rock ‘N’ Load were lucky enough to get an early preview and share our thoughts:
Over the past few years, Northlane has been one of the most active Metalcore bands within the entire scene. Touring as often as they can alongside the release of their latest album Alien, seeing how much they’ve blown up has been incredible. Now to top it off, they’re doing a virtual “tour” of sorts with their upcoming streaming Pay-Per-View event Live at The Roadhouse, an hour-long live set filmed at Sydney’s iconic Roundhouse venue on the opening night of their Alien world tour. I guess this matters to considering what it is I’m reviewing, but I watched the stream on a 1440p Monitor and had my audio coming through a Cambridge Audio amp and my JBL Control One speakers. #nice
To start with, we have Talking Heads, and I was instantly blown away by the quality of the audio. I’ve never heard a live recording even half as good as this. The quality alone is enough to keep me watching, but the level of performance kept my eyes glued to the screen the entire time, especially with the stage presence of Vocalist Marcus Bridge. After this we’re treated to Intuition (Mesmer), Details Matter (Alien) and Jinn (Alien) which was having it’s live debut all before two of my all-time favourite tracks from the band, Rot (Node) and Citizen (Mesmer). By the time I was 5 tracks in I was completely absorbed within the performance, almost to the same degree as I would be at an actual live show which I genuinely didn’t expect in the slightest.
With us approaching the halfway point, we have 4D (Alien) and Freefall (Alien) which showcase the newer sound that the band went for within their latest album as well as their technical ability as musicians. Obelisk (Node) brings the aggression back to the set before the aggression is turned to eleven with Vultures (Alien) which carries on into Eclipse (Alien) and Bloodline (Alien) which perfectly shows just how good of a vocalist Marcus Bridge is. Then we move into the encore, which consists of Sleepless (Alien) which features the sheer range of the band sonically before moving onto the final song of the set Quantum Flux (Singularity) which had me singing along full volume the entire time without me even realising.
Live at The Roadhouse is a fantastic live show to watch form one of the most exciting bands within metal currently. As someone who saw Northlane live previously on their tour for the previous album Mesmer, the feeling of a live show is all throughout this live-stream. From stage presence to sound there’s nothing, I can truly fault here. I also want to mention just how good the audio quality was, despite obviously being live, the mix and mastering done by Chris Blancato makes it sound incredible, unlike the majority of live albums I’ve heard. If you’re a fan of Northlane, pay the small fee, support the band and watch one of the best live recordings I’ve had the pleasure of seeing.

“One of the most incredible, moving moments we’ve ever had on stage for me was when we played Sleepless for the first time at our show at the Roundhouse,” starts guitarist Josh Smith. “Knowing what events had transpired not too long before that, and what the song was about I could tell Marcus was struggling when I got up there. By the time the song had finished he was in tears and he just soldiered on though the rest of the encore like nothing was wrong at all. I could tell on the inside he was just bleeding out. It was one of the bravest moments I’ve ever witnessed.”
