For those unfamiliar with Night Crowned, it is the result of combining past and present members of The Crown, Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System and letting them make something as stunning as it is black.
This mini album is only 3 tracks however that is more than enough for any person to appreciate the sound created is that of the glorious 90s for Scandinavian Black Metal and it is refreshing to hear such high-quality Black Metal.
The album opens with ‘No Room For Hope’ and immediately the high paced drums and scything guitars are matched with a typical Black Metal vocal. The intensity is matched by the melodic aspects as the guitar solos create atmosphere to guide us into this new dawn of Black Metal.
Next up is ‘All Life Ends’ which opens with a short pleasant interlude before the crashing sounds of the drums begin to infest your brain again and the shrill sound of the vocal returns and then the track really kicks in to life. The pacey drum leads the march of darkness that is again matched by stunning guitar work to again create something as dark as it is beautiful.
Wrapping up this mini album is ‘Nocturnal Pulse’ that continues in the same vein as the other two tracks and really rubber stamps this incredible debut release.
It is clear that this band have used all the experience of a combined tally of over 20 full length releases to create this Black Metal masterpiece and hopefully it won’t be too long before they release more new material. This is a must have for any fan of Black Metal and teases just how good a full length will be. With releases like this from Night Crowned, the future is excitingly dark for Black Metal.
