New Zealand’s CORIDIAN Drop Elder EP & Talk Influences & Inspiration With Rock ‘N’ Load
DROP NEW SINGLE ‘GOOD FOR NOTHING’ FROM ‘ELDUR’ EP RELEASE
‘ELDUR’ EP IS THIRD IN CORIDIAN’S FOUR-PART ELEMENTS SERIES
EP OUT FRIDAY MAY 22ND
So for anyone unfamiliar with Coridian, tell us a little bit about your backstory and how you ended up here.
Kris: Me and the brothers had been jamming in our instrumental band ‘Chuck Norris Trio’ for years, but we wanted to take it to another level and get a bit more serious. We had a singer for a bit but it didn’t gel and I knew Dity from when our old bands used to play together and we bonded. I knew he could sing big and perform and I think we all really found ourselves and our sound when Dity joined us, so by our 2nd EP ‘Caldera’ we were ready to smash it out the park. We have played all around NZ with some incredible local talent, supported some of our musical heroes, and released some cool songs along the way. EP number 3 we are super proud of and we have an incredible team we work with for recording our music and making our videos, all independent and local, it’s great!
Tell us about what you are currently up to?
Kris: Busy! We are in the midst of releasing ‘Eldur’, singles, videos, promo, and content. Lockdown Threat Level Midnight is now over in NZ so life is starting to get back kinda back to normal, we are waiting to see when we can gig again. The next steps are our album release show and getting tours sorted!
What is next for you?
Kris: Writing, recording and gigging. We are focusing on having lots of content for our fans to enjoy in the downtime but are itching to get back on stage and play these new songs. We are currently writing for our next release, always trying to be ahead of the game with a plan.
Influences & Inspiration
Kris: Drumming wise- Abe Cunnigham from Deftones – the ultimate groove beast. Travis Barker from Blink 182 and Bonzo from Led Zepp defo kept me busy growing up, learning and borrowing drum ideas.
Nick (Bass): John Butler Trios album ‘Sunrise over Sea’ really started it for me- John as a musician and a person has had a big influence.
Dity: I have a wide range of genres I listen to. Stemming from boy band Pop to heavier tropes like Deftones & Tool. I like to take inspiration from all vocalists but Brandon Boyd was a big one for me – I adored his singing style and his lyric writing abilities. Very poetic and emotive.
Mike (Guitar) : Adam Jones from Tool, his unique and original style on guitar, his tone and use of effects. But like Dity, so many influences particularly a lot of the blues guitarists like Peter Green and Joe Bonamassa.
Coridian, who last month dropped single ‘The Witness’ and announced their forthcoming EP ‘Eldur’ for release on May 22nd (available for Pre-Order now at https://smarturl.it/PreEldur), are today dropping a BIG new anthem and fresh cut from the EP will be out on Friday May 8th on all digital stores and streaming outlets at https://smarturl.it/goodfornothing!
‘Eldur’ is the third in a four EP series that the band began in 2015 with ‘Oceanic’. The four EP cycle covers off all of the Elements that comprise the Earth.
The single is not without a message. According to the band, the new single is about false portrayal of having “the good life” on social media and the pressure to mirror that. “We’ve become a society using social media to portray a false life by taking snapshots of fabricated moments. The desire for likes are taking a toll on our mental health, especially our youth.“
“Social media influencers are idolised by the youth as role models, yet the real role models are voiceless. The nurses, teachers, first responders etc..They are making a real difference in this world. If people spent more time focusing on their real lives, rather than focusing on their on-screen lives, we’d be taking steps to a better space for our next generations.“
On top of the new single and announcing the EP, Coridian have also been releasing a series of Documentary episodes about the creation of the EP on their Youtube Channel in the lead up to the release of ‘Eldur.’ 3 out of the 5 episodes have dropped to date, EPISODE 1, EPISODE 2 and EPISODE 3, with the last two episodes dropping ahead of the EP release date.
Coridian have toured extensively around NZ, including their own headlining tours and performing with high profile NZ acts such as Devilskin, City of Souls, I AM GIANT, Skinny Hobos & Written by Wolves as well as international acts such as Skillet (USA), P.O.D (USA), Fuel (USA), Fozzy (USA), Sumo Cyco (CAN) & Red Sea (AUS).
