Axecatcher are a hardcore band formed in Limavady, Northern Ireland in late 2011. Formed out of a mutual love of heavy music, the band quickly entered the gigging scene in the North and South of Ireland, making tremendous impressions with their lively and energetic live performance, coupled with their interesting blend of heavy genres.

July 2012 brought about the release of their first single ‘The Odalisque’. This gained the band some much deserved attention, culminating in it being the featured track on BBC Across The Line’s feature ‘That New Band Smell’. Carrie Davenport writes, “We recommend playing 7min masterpiece ‘The Odalisque’ at full volume, and throwing yourself around the house in a one man mosh pit. [sic] “

February 2013 saw the band release their first EP, ‘Sparks & Spears’, on Savour Your Scene records. The EP was released as a limited run of cassette tapes as well as online, and was received warmly by both local and international music journalists online, receiving numerous positive reviews.

June 2013 brought about the addition of Karson Browne on lead vocals, helping solidify the sound that is gaining Axecatcher an ever growing fan base throughout the country.

Axecatcher released their second EP ‘We Watch The Sun Burn’ on February 28th 2014. The EP was released in digital formats, as well as a small run of CDs. This release garnered more attention for the band, and continuing positive reviews.

July 2015 saw the release of a single, ‘Monster Blood V’, serving to bridge the gap between ‘We Watch The Sun Burn’, and 2016s ‘Common Blood’. The band made a handful of festival appearances, including Stendhal 2015, and Monsters Of Rot V. Since the release of “Sparks and Spears”, Axecatcher have played alongside international acts including Canada’s KEN Mode and Comeback Kid, Los Angeles’ Rotting Out.

Common Blood, recorded late 2015 and released July 2016, is a culmination of Axecatcher’s sound and aesthetic – riff driven hardcore, with a raw but polished sound.

In early 2017, the lineup changed once more, with Karson leaving the band, and Danny being replaced on drums by Chris Whall.

The Grey Takes The Gold’ (single) was released 29th August 2017.

Their most recent release, the EP ‘Second Hand Grief’ was released 29th March 2019.

Axecatcher’s sound is best described as an energetic blend of hardcore/metalcore and rock, backed by rough, powerful screams and visceral lyrics. FFO Every Time I Die, Trash Talk, Converge.
