Decibel Magazine is hosting an exclusive premiere of “On Through Phlegethon,” a new single from Bay Area thrash/death metal quintet, MOLTEN. The track precedes the band’s impending debut album, Dystopian Syndrome, set for release in January 2021.
Formed in the Bay Area underground, the heavy quintet MOLTEN includes members from Hazzard’s Cure, Hellfire, and more, delivering a straightforward assault which incorporates elements of death, doom, and black metal into their wholly thrash-fueled sound. The follow-up to their 2019-issued eponymous EP, their crushing Dystopian Syndrome album was recorded and mixed by Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios (Ulthar, Vastum, Deathgrave), mastered by Justin Weis at Trakworx, and completed with artwork by Pedro Felipe Oliveira.
With the premiere of their newest single, guitarist Chris Corona states, “‘On Through Phlegethon’ is the first full song idea I brought to MOLTEN. I had a solid idea of how I wanted it to fit into the MOLTENsound, but the end collaborative result blew me away. The lyrics reflect the struggle of the downtrodden against the oppressing insurmountable forces that surround us today and literally cast shadows and darken our lives. Inspired by one of the five Greek mythological rivers of the underworld that burns the souls of those who committed crimes against their own kind, Phlegethon is a figurative journey finding our way through this darkness using the burning souls of these evil tyrants to light the way.”
Decibel writes with the song’s premiere, “Bringing to mind Greek black metal and old-school death metal in equal measure, ‘On Through Phlegethon’ puts MOLTEN‘s multifaceted strengths on glorious display.”
