Light Years Unleash ‘Bottle Rocket’:
Ohio Pop-Punks Present New Video Single Taken From Forthcoming LP ‘Afterlife’

2nd November: Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Pop-Punk unit Light Years have weaved their way through the scene for almost a decade. Formed by vocalist Pat Kennedy, he enlisted in Tommy Englert, Andrew Foerst and Kent Sliney to round out the group in 2009. They have notched up tours with heavy-hitters like Neck Deep, State Champs, Modern Baseball, Citizen and Turnover, alongside appearances on The Vans Warped Tour and So What?! Music Festival.

Recently, they announced their forthcoming record ‘Afterlife’ is due out November 30th via Rude Records and launched pre-orders here. The 11-track rager was recorded and produced by Will Yip (who also produced the band’s 2015 classic, ‘I’ll See You When I See You’). In support of the release, the quartet has unleashed the new video single ‘Bottle Rockethere. Kennedy says of its creation and meaning: “This song took on a few different forms during the writing process, and finally came together in the studio with some help from our producer Will Yip. We originally had the idea to make it more of a chill laid back track, but in the studio, it turned into a full-blown rocker.  Sometimes it just takes an outside ear to find the missing piece of the song and make it what it should be, and that’s what Will does for us. I’m glad we stuck with it because it has become one of our favorites on the album.” Bottle Rocket’ is only the latest installment to be released from the LP, being preceded by ‘Graveyard’ (available for purchase here and to stream here), a song about life cycles and trying to make the most of your time. Prior to this was ‘Burning In My Blood’ which can be found here, with Kennedy elaborating: “Sometimes it feels like things haven’t exactly gone my way over the past few years, but I still have that same fire and drive in me to not give up as I’ve always had. The rest of the record also shares this same idea. We are older now and realizing what is most important in our own lives, and just trying to focus on the best parts of it even when things are feeling pretty bleak.” Lead single ‘Back Then’ (here), was a unique throwback video which features footage from the band growing up, having been written about their first time on the road. The song has a classic simple rock and roll vibe melded with some new school punk rock elements and sets the tone sonically for the record.

Discussing how much ‘Afterlife’ means to him, Kennedy reveals: “Afterlife is where Light Years has been heading for the past 8 years. We spent more time on this record than anything we have done before and I think it shows. We tried new sounds and ideas that before we would have never thought to do, or been willing to try, which I think only comes from the maturity you get from being in a band for so many years. We hope people like this record as much as we do, but if they don’t, we really don’t care.”
