KNUCKLE PUCK // DISPOSABLE LIFE // EP REVIEW

8

Chicago’s infamous sons Knuckle Puck are back with heat another blistering recording in the form of a 5 track EP Disposable Life.

There is no time to catch your breath here as the guys lace into these tracks they only know-how, in your face and unapologetic. These guys may pack a punch but each track holds a melodic edge that keeps you hanging on for more. Brutal and frenetic at times you can’t help but be pulled in by its musical charm.

Each track is short and sweet but leaves you feeling like you have just had the beating of your life and weirdly thanking the person for doing it!

Vocalist Joe Taylor describes the EP, which follows last year’s LP 2020, as a throwback to when the band first started. “It feels like we’re kind of rebooting Knuckle Puck,” says Taylor. “Making this music has been the most fun we’ve had in a really long time.”  That feeling is in part due to the break in working forced by the pandemic, but it’s also a product of a freer approach to writing and recording outside of label pressure. “It was fresh and exciting again,” says Taylor. “It was like ‘Oh man, this feels like it did in 2013.’ We captured some of that magic.”

Track after track you just dig what these guys do, a band that has earned their stripes on the road and in the studio over the past two decades you can understand why they are one of the best at it out there.

Disposable Life drops this coming Friday and has to be on your radar.
