“Has a song ever made you feel like you’re melting? Germany-based indie-rock act KID DAD will give you all the zen you need … powerful and incredibly intimate. Quiet vocals and expressive guitar riffs will connect the audience with the band as much as with themselves.”Alternative Press

Paderborn, Germany indie/rock band KID DAD have announced that their debut album ‘In A Box’ will be released August 21 via Long Branch Records.

They’ve also revealed a new single – ‘A Prison Unseen’ – with accompanying music video. The visuals are an abstract series of vignettes that are evocative of the song’s themes.

Says vocalist and guitarist Marius Vieth “‘A Prison Unseen’ is about loss of control and a lack of self-restraint that can be invisible to the world around you. The protagonist puts his threatened mental well-being over his physical body and embraces the possibility of an utter loss of his senses.”

‘A Prison Unseen’ was many months in the making and is a testament to KID DAD’s attention to detail. The track is an immersive experience, undulating between a contemplative simplicity and a soaring, driving chorus featuring the catchiest of hooks. The breadth of expression within this single is carried throughout ‘In A Box’. Inspired by their travels and the world around them, as well as internal dialogue and a plethora of musical and artistic influences, KID DAD have crafted a record of epic proportions.

The creation of ‘In A Box’ was fuelled by songwriting trips to England, China and Switzerland, as well as much time spent in Berlin. Regarding the experience of recording over a prolonged period of time, Marius says “I really enjoyed working with so many different setups. You absorb everything when you’re young – I want to take advantage of that.”

“‘In A Box’ is ambiguous,” he continues, musing on the album’s title. “Is the box your prison or your hiding place? Do you get claustrophobic when you think about sitting in a noiseless, random, dark box or do you even wish to be in such a place? People cannot be divided or sorted by this question. It is the moments, the feelings, the actions that make everyone react and feel differently. Torn between fear and longing, we tell each of you what we feel and how far-reaching those feelings are within this album.”

Kid Dad’s distinct sound has led to the band playing shows with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Marmozets, The Deadnotes and Fatherson. With their inimitable approach incorporating the raw and experimental, soaring riffs and hooky melodies, the band manages to balance soundscapes that draw on multiple genre influences to create music that is ultimately entirely original.
